Whys it so dead on here?

Featured Replies

I used to be on here all of the time, but moving out my parents meant I lost my unlimited use of broadband internet (I'm too cheap to buy broadband myself).

Add that to the fact a lot of the useful threads about things I want to read have been replaced by 17 year old tools wondering how to make their 1.4 8v 6n go over 100mph! That's what it looks like every time I long on anyway.

i had ham sandwiches for lunch... Fucking ruined my day that did :(

Initially I was very lively on here, but then I saw the same stuff being asked time and again and it started to get a tad boring linking people to FAQs, etc, so I went into lurking.

I've been on and off here for years (mostly just in the background reading)

But id say, of late, it has just become a bit to "moany" and (i hate to use this word) "Bitchy"

People with all the know how are to quick to shut down and piss over people who go "hey guys, I've just bought a polo and...."

So what if we get a few repeated questions?

I know we have to keep it tidy, but your going to get loads of people come on here looking for "will these 4x100 15" wheels fit my car" or "will this K&N filter make my 1.0 polo drive like a GTI" ... when i first joined, i asked those questions.

If i see them now, I'm happy to answer them, or point people in the right direction... if this place is not for that, then what is it for?

Otherwise its just a play ground for a closed group of mates with a "you cant play here" attitude to anyone else who turns up and shows an interest.

As i say, over the years I've been here loads. sold loads of parts. Chatted to a fair few of you and met a handful of you in person. Its a (can be a) brilliant place to come. BUT i wouldn't say i felt part of a CLUB. As it seem the main ring of you guy on here are on first name terms, and i think this shows to people coming into the forum and i think that might put people off.....

Just my thoughts......

I have to agree with the above. People are put off by ego's and attitudes. When I first joined it was the same, CP had a rep on other forums for being bitchy. Persist enough and people pay you a little more respect. But people are not going to come back to the club if there thread gets pooned because you've read a topic a few times. Say use the search but not everyone thinks to go there first, i know I didn't. And it doesn't help that we have the google and forum search. Took me a while to realise you get different results from the two.

A forum is for asking questions. If it's been asked, re-direct to a previous topic or shut up. Some folk on here have a total superiority complex because of their personal back ground (usually those who work in car development). Instead of acting superior, why not use your knowledge to help someone without punctuating it with some egotistical comment like 'because of my job I'm a perfectionist'. So fuck. I've forgotten more than a lot of people know about certain subjects I know, but I wouldn't make people feel bad because they didn't know. I'd be pretty shit at my job if i did. We all started with zero knowledge after all.

I'll say it again, but it's the same people (and I'm sure they know who they are) over and over again. I'm sure most, and I know some are good guys, because I've met them. But it seems, just like road rage behind a wheel, when they get behind a keyboard they feel they have to mouth off. And I know for a fact some have bitched personally about me, and others, behind my back. That's what puts people off. It's not like a club at times, but there are a few good people that keep me coming back to various events because they are enthusiastic and helpful. Funnily enough the superiority complex often falls away when face-to-face as well.

So at least one of the reasons people come and go, or just go is because of a few members making their presence felt, in a not too helpful way. So before starting topics like this, consider your actions and how you respond to others. It's not an exclusive club and you only drive a polo. If you want to be part of a smaller group of close buddies, join a club like polo3 with a limited number of users.

But as far as the banter and glory days go, I can't comment as I wasn't a part of things then. I'm sure they were great mind, but that's not what I'm commenting on
