Whys it so dead on here?

Featured Replies

I think that above, in all honesty, is fucking ridiculous.

We all started on here too not knowing a single person, i came in when a lot of other people all knew eachother on 1st name terms.

I didnt throw a fucking hissy fit and cry about it. I just hung around and joined in with the banter.

But now there is no banter because it all gets deleted.. nobody can.

And lets face it, you dont get to know someone when your asking if a K&N filter will fit your polo. You get to know people when your messing around and having a laugh.

prime example...

the illusive caretakerplus, he's a legend, knows lots, helps lots etc... nobody has a fucking clue who he actually is? could be a child molester in a prison cell for all we know

If you get scared of people knowing eachother on here and arent willing to try and join in then your absolutely fucked when it comes to the real world.

Iv met people on here, that's why majority of people I actually know don't cry about what I write cause they know how to take it

We all started on here too not knowing a single person, i came in when a lot of other people all knew eachother on 1st name terms.

This! I came on here, got abit of abuse about how my old car looked but I just took it as banter/criticism. Went to spring fest and put a couple of names to faces then polo show etc. yôu just have to stick with it and don't cry when someone offends you!

Now I only cry when I masterbate :lol::lol::lol:

I don't see the problem. You want friends, go to the pub. This is the internet and even if you go to loads of shows all year you're only gonna meet people who live elsewhere in the country for several days a year.

It's a car forum, most people coming on here are looking for info. There are a lot of people who claim to be interested in doing stuff to their car, and they do no research and just want answers. I have no time for them. I came on here first in '04, having been to Poloshow '04, looking for info on how to fit bike carbs and a 1.6 into a MK2. I was laughed at, on a site that back then was dominated by the G40 owner, or people wanting a G40. I didn't, so i didn't fit in.

So i went and did all the work off my own learning curve, and signed back up in late '05 with the car done - still treated like a clown. I did like most of what was going on though, because it was amusing back then. There was lots of effort going into having a laugh. It wasn't about people copying eachother to fit in, people were just being wild and doing mad shit.

Now it's all politically correct, people rightly getting shot down for trying to do stuff when they haven't got a fucking clue - go and get one, then come back. Or asking what size clothes to wear (or the scene equivalent). I'm all for helping people who can do something with it, but i'm sick of telling people how to use a fucking screwdriver. If you're not handy with the spanners, go to a fucking football match instead. Or get handy, and then come back.

Snotty attitude maybe, but i go to a breakers and i'm working on a car, then i get someone asking me questions about another car, they haven't a clue, they end up practically wanting to know what's wrong with their car, what parts do they need, can i remove the parts for them because they haven't got any tools.. No mate, fuck off. And they're on here as well, internet equivalents..

The problem here is these dizzy fuckers can't see how much effort has been put on this site over the last decade, packing the FAQ's with a wealth of info, and they just wanna create new topics for their own chat room or because they can't be arsed to research.

These are the topics that deserve to get gatecrashed, and i'm all for it - but either it never happens anymore for whatever reason, or it does and gets deleted/locked before anyone can have any fun.

Poorly fitted, badly set-up bike carbs by a noob = No money, Moaning misses, and broken down in the pissing rain on somewhere in the West Midlands

What is fucking ridiculous?

All i was asking was if people knew each other out side of the forum, or because of the forum!?

As id like to more a part of the stuff that goes on outside of the forum! :)

I think you took what i said out of context (if that was aimed at me) I didnt say i was scared of people knowing each other. I said i thought it was cool and wanted to join in more!

But then, a slightly OTT response such at that is maybe a good example of why some people wouldn't bother trying.

I'm a friendly chap who always has his 2 pence to offer. Then there are people who are all about telling people how wrong they are.

Why So Serious? :)

Problem with this forum is that people take everything too seriously.

People get offended far too easily on the internets.

The internet is a big, scary and mean place, your mothers should have taught you all this before you went off crying to them.

Yes, most of us know eachother.

But we only know eachother because of this place really.

BUT we only know eachother well because we all go to shows n shit.

I'm sorry toby, but you are the biggest culprit for this lol??!!!

I wrekon i might hit the polo show this year! (work permiting)

I came to the Club polo RR day for the first time this year :)

And i did pop over to the CP stand at GTI spring fest but nobody about.

I plan on coming over to cadwell park as well (just to spectate) as ill be be just down the road the day your all there :)

I think the rise of facebook is partly to blame for the reduction of communities on forums.

The forums I ran back 10 years ago were hives of activity and community - i think people came to forums to chat as well back then, but now you can do facebook where its all about you.

I dont really know many people on here at all- just a few who i spent time with at the Poloshow which was great.

I probably know cars better from build threads etc.

I'm hoping to have a beer and a laugh with a few more this year - this time ill be there with a polo.

I dont mind banter at all populating the forum, however, sometimes a thread with some genuine good info that someone has taken the time to contribute is then 50 pages long and often you have no idea the stuff you really wanted to ask is on page 22.

So its a question of balance, because we all want a laugh as well.

3 pages overnight? Fuck me....

Mikey you say they're only people you see a few days a year, that much be in some people's case, others socialise without doing anything car related and are just mates, even if they don't live locally
