I have a 2005 1.2 Polo Twist and the high level/3rd brake light doesn't seem to be working.

The manual doesnt seem to mention a fuse for the 3rd brake light, so i have checked every fuse in the dash, and they all seem fine. So I purchased a new light from VW and its still not working.

The connectors were ever so slightly rusty, so i put a new connector on however its still not working.

Am I missing something here?

Hoping to get something sorted, and if the help was as good as myTreg.com, i'll be over the moon :)

without wiring diagrams its quite hard to tell, but have you tried removing the light and getting a multi meter across the terminals to see if it actually recieves power when the pedal is pressed? sorry if I've just pointed out the obvious as you may have already tried this

The high level light just "T's" into the normal brake lights, so no seperate fuse, does the rear wiper work? as it shares the same earth wire as the light

Unfortunately I don't have access to one :/. I really must pick one up!!

Yep, the rear wiper works like a charm. I'll take a look at the rear light connections to see if there is anything wrong there.

The connector for the highlevel light is @ position #6

On left C-pillar

1 - 5-pin connector, vacant

2 - 5-pin connector -T5b-, brown

3 - 5-pin connector -T5e-, black

These pics are for a LHD so they should be on the right C pillar

If you get a voltage @ the connector T5e pin 2 and not at the light unit, you've got a broken wire probably in the flexy tubing between the tailgate and the body

Probably a wire broken in the hinge of the tailgate, that's what I've mostly found on cars with wipers or high level brake light not working.

Mine wasn't working on my 6n not long back and it turns out it wasn't connected no more for some strange reason.

Take the light off and have a check that the connection for the light is firmly on

If you just want to get it past the test, then take the light ligand cover the hole with duct tape.if it simisnt fired, then they can't testit.
