Just joined the forum after purchasing a new little project :-D

Picked up an old A Reg Mk2 polo coupe 1.3 gl in need of a lot of TLC

This is the second coupe I've owned,

Brought it as a non runner, got her up and running but the carb is in need of replacement as its running very lumpy,

done a few searches on here and found most people are running either bike carb setups or weber carbs,

does anyone have any advice on which is the better option, or does anyone have any carbs for sale, not looking to spend a fortune but i am quite aware carbs arnt cheep,

peferably i would want to run this with a bolt on k&n filter as carb icing is not going to be too much of a problem for me as its going to be more of a weekend car than a daily runner

Hello and welcome - I'm not sure about webers as I havnt had one but my polo is on bike carbs, there's alot of info on this site as to getting them working etc and I paid £50 for them you can get the cheaper too dependant on condition ( I got robbed as mine are filthy!) if you look in the bike carb thread it'll tell you what you need off a mk2 polo to convert it too bike carbs.

But yeah not the most helpful response I'm afraid just a heads up incase your on a lower budget

Welcome I have a bike setup on my polo at the minute that will be up for sale after the weekend if your interested, they have been jetted balanced and the fuel set so they will bolt on and run well enough to get you to the tuners if you feel is required. All u will need is a throttle cable and some proper hose as I made some reducers out of two different size hoses. Will be looking for £150. Pm if your interested

As you can see from the pictures, there's loads to do! Want to get her running right first off, then the engine bay needs sorting (it's gonna be an engine out job i think), the interior then the exterior body work and the mods, coilovers, wheels etc. This is going to be a long term project tho so don't expect to see it driving around anytime soon :-D

Looks well tidy, will be a great project, really like early coupes.

My fella actually has this exact car in red looking to break his i can ask him what parts he is willing to get rid off.

If you want to send me a PM with any parts you need ill speak to him tonight.

I know he wont charge much as he just wants rid.

Hi Danni, cheers for the reply post, I've actually sourced most of the parts for it now, got a new interior, door cards, weber carb, just after a passenger side door, but want one in silver preferably. Next job is getting the engine out and painted etc. then it's on to upgrading the brakes as they are shocking at the min :)
