Fibreglass/Carbon fibre wings and bonnet

Featured Replies

Hi Guys.

I've seen alot of threads about composite panels but they don't ever seem to materialise.

Basically I nailed a dear in my polo last night and am taking it as my cue to finally order the fibreglass panels I've been meaning to get. Thought I'd try and make a bit of a group buy out of it so here we are......

Prices are

£160 for fibreglass wings

£190 for fibreglass bonnet

£350 for carbon fibre wings

£450 for carbon bonnets

No minimum numbers but more than 10 will give a small drop in price.Let me know if your interested and in a week or two ill start taking £50 deposits and get the ball rolling.

They require full payment on commencement of the order.

Cheers

Liam

I take it wings are priced individually, rather than per pair?

Price is per pair mate.

Where are these coming from?

Why is a pair of carbon wings and normal wings less than just a bonnet

Makes no sense especially as bonnets would be easier to make

A local company to me.

Done alot of work for friends of mine.

Haven't got a clue why. Thats just the prices he gave me.

Those prices are bloody good! I paid £70 3 weeks ago for one of VWs last Mark3 wings. Wish this had been on offer around then!

I take it the bonnets will be just the skin with no frame, so the use of bonnet pins will be required unless you bond the frame from a bonnet to the fibreglass skin?

Hope i didn't come across as rude mate didn't mean to be just curious really as wings obviously need two moulds and twice as much work yet they are cheaper

Real Good prices though

I've got to discus this with him as its a very early quote via a mutual friend. I'm going to link up with him when I get a chance and work out the details.

Yeh I know what you mean, as I said above ill work out the details when I link up with him.

Using carbon fibre - assuming pre preg. A bonnet is in no way easier than a wing trust me. A wing generally has one cure a bonnet has two due to having core inside

Well depending on their lay up and how cowboy they are

Ok. Met with Alex today to discuss things further.

Material thickness is generally OEM thickness although they can be thinner if you prefer.

Bonnets will be exact replicas made using a two peice layup of the outer skin and the internal webbing, meaning that you can mount them using standard hinges and catches should you so desire, of course bonnet pins are going to be preferable for peice of mind.

The quality of his work looks to be top notch, he has over 10 years experience in the field and it shows!

Lead time is going to be a month or so as he is very busy and runs the business in his spare time.

If your interested let me know via PM what you would like and I will put your name on the list.

I will look to take deposits in a week or two. At that point I will get him to make up the moulds and possibly do my set as a tester.

Upon placing the order he will require full payment. When complete the parts will be sent out to you via or you can collect depending on how close to somerset you are.

Any more questions let me know and I will pass them on.

My friend does alot of painting for the guy making them.

You just need to give them a damn good flatting back and the surface finish is as good as any other panel.

They will still be available after the first buy however they will be at a slightly increased price. Price will still be very competetive.
