Hello, this might sound strange and the two issues are probably not related but when the engine is cold there is no noise from either the steering or the clutch but when the engine has run for a while and I depress the clutch pedal it makes a creaking noise (Sounds like an old barn door opening) and gears are a little difficult to select. The steering also has similar issues, seems fine when engine is cold but once run for a while there is a creak when I turn the steering wheel (At low speed).

Has anyone else had a similar issue?

I have owned her for a few months and she has always had these issues since I bought her.

I was told that she had a new clutch fitted last year but there was no service history with the the car. I recently fitted a new clutch cable, this sorted the notchy operation (Feels smooth now) but not stopped the creaking noise.

The creaking clutch pedal sounds as if you may have a cracked pedal box. These are not easy to get at and it would pay you to remove the drivers seat in order to get a better look at it - You then need to get in there with a torch and check for cracks. There are articles on this Forum dealing with this (fairly) common problem.

As for the steering problem, I would think that these are not related, BUT it is obviously important to get this sorted.

Likely culprits for this are: Top suspension pivot(s), Steering rack not being tight on its mountings. Bottom Pivot(s). Air in the power steering fluid (check the fluid level).

Hello caretakerplus, thanks for the advice. I have read posts on dodgy pedal boxes in the past and wondered if this could be the problem with the creaking clutch but i don't understand why it only creaks when I have been driving for a while. There is no noise when I press the clutch pedal when the engine is cold..

The power steering fluid is at the correct level but it seems to have had a leak in the past somewhere near the reservoir as there are signs of old congealed fluid in that area. I check the fluid levels on a regular basis and it doesn't seem to be loosing any but maybe I need to clean the old fluid off and have a good look at that.
