Hi people.

Need to sort out my speaker pods in the mk3, got two sets of speakers to choose from which I'd like advise on (although I think the answer is simple) and a suitable amp for them.

Will just be running the 6.5" components in the front, maybe some 3.5's in the dash but unsure if needed.

No sub, and would like to mount amp under passenger seat, or drivers, but I have rocco seats which sit lower (clearance issue?)

So I have a set of

Guessing the GZ ones are the ones to use, as JBL are ~£70, GZ are ~£250

And the magnet and crossover for the GZ are a lot larger.

So the amp needs to be suitable rating, not be too much to blow them up or whatever.

Also wiring them, do I just use the normal front speaker outputs from my head unit?

the jbl's will do the job well, the ground zero are alot of money for what the spec is you looked into hertz, rockford fosgate, rainbow?

id just run the 6.5" in the doors and use the dash locations as tweeters they will bounce of the window very well

the amp a 2 channel about 2x75w rms will be average but 2x100w rms is what id run the jbls off as for amp brand theres so much out there depends how much you want to spend and what quality sound your looking for

wiring you will just use the phono pre-outs on the headunit only using one of the iso plugs too

Not sure specifically now - its a good 2-3 years old so quite dated!

Alpine one with iPod control, I know it's 4x50w output and I did have a sub connected to the RCA outputs.

I'll get the code off it ASAP for specific specs

yeah its pretty basic, what sort of money you got in mind for an amp? I've got an old 2channel vibe vp2 2x100w rms @4ohms 2x150 @2ohms and 300w rms bridged that would run either set nicely

Might not use the GZ speakers now - the corssovers have been removed from their cases and stuff t be bonded to the door cards they came off, and ill need to cut my doorcard to clear the magnets.

Ideally I wanna mount an amp under my seat to keep it out the way, was looking at this just now..

Confused with wiring speakers via an amp, any time I have wired a sub its just been using the RCA outputs on the headunit, but what about door speakers? Do I run the wires from the standard ISO connectors that usually connect to speakers to the amp instead?

I've got a Shark V3 400W that I used to run my rear 6x9's with, that would be small enough to fit under the seat if you can find one.

I'll take a picture tonight so you can gauge size.

So done some light reading,

I have 1 preout on my head unit, and want to run a 2 channel amp.

I could use the standard speaker wires from the HUs built in amp if I ran a high input amp or a step down box thingy.

Just wondering, if I have 1 pre out, how do I wire that to a 2 channel amp? They all seem to have an RCA input for left and right channels, but I only have the 1 input?

Totally confused, just wanna bosh it together and work without breaking speakers tbh.

If thats the case you might need a new headunit.

Normally a head unit would have a L and R pre out, corresponding with the two on the amp, witchcraft happens to give you 2 L & R speaker outputs.

And my JBL amp had a output which was phono. Meant I could piggy back the sub amp off it.

Might be worth looking for..

According to this you can switch the internal amp on and off to enable you to use an external amp?

just use the left and right phono going to the 2 channel amp for the doors then most amps have an output phono to run more amps

you dont need to use the iso speaker plug at all, just run two runs of 16awg speaker wire one to each component

your local so inbox me if you want i can install and set everything up if you wish

most amps are about 50mm hight that should be plenty under the seat, if not hide it behind the rear door card some mdf, brackets and bolts can secure that well

shark amps are really budget and if your looking for a decent sound i wouldnt advise getting one of them

Them outputs are adjustable via the "sub" setting on the head unit, still be the right kind of output for mids and tweeters? Ie the HU doesn't separate the low frequencies just to use these as a sub output?

Iv got a 2 chan amp already for my sub which I'm no longer using - its just big lol.

Your headunit can be set as a sub or front output, it still plays all range through it in either sub or front setting

Just set the amp into hpf at about 100-150hz and then adjust the headunit leaving hpf off and adjust the bass frequency and curv on the unit to suit your needs

So if I use the two phonos on the HU it will be fine I guess.

Basically:

Phono to amp

One channel to LHF crossover

Other to RHF crossover

Crossovers to each speaker & tweeter

Simples? Lol

One set of Phonos, one left channel one right going to the L and R input of the amp

One left channel amp output to the x-over the other to the right x-over

Amp set in high pass filter both will be set the same
