Mk4 golf TDI 90

Featured Replies

Hey,

First off, this ad might sound like its a total shed, its not, I am just trying to be honest.

Am picking my new car up on Sat 18th May so this needs to be gone ASAP after that.

So some basics:

MK4 Golf TDI 90 SE

5 door - reflex silver

MOT til Nov 27th

Tax up this month

188k, be around 188300 when I finish with it this week.

Some spec:

Aircon

PAS

4 electric windows

Remote locking/alarm

15" alloys

6 disc changer (in dash)

Leccy heated mirrors

1.9tdi engine - not a PD engine.

So I bought this off a colleague, the turbo had gone, and whilst he had it in bits he had the head off for a look and renewed various things:

New big & main bearings

HG

Cambelt

New clutch

New cat

New starter motor

New batt

A reconned turbo

Allard EGR delete

I bought it at the end of October last year, and I have done the following:

Discs & pads all round - 5000miles old.

2 front springs - one had broken when I MOT'd it, so done around 6000 miles.

Steering rack gaiters - one had popped off and been chewed up, so replaced both the other week.

Wheel alignment - front tyres were wearing on outer edges + to correct after having the track rod ends off.

Coolant header tank & cap (explained further on)

Thermostat (explained further on)

Oil + filter - again 5-6000miles old

Air filter - 5-6000miles ago

Aircon regas

I have done about 6000 miles in it, been my daily to commute 50 miles a day, has never let me down.

Has always started, admittedly a little sluggish when was below -5 degrees, but always went.

Bodywork is a bit tired, do not expect a mint car. Things such as:

Rear bumper scuffed where things going in and out of boot

Front bumper bit of paint missing and looks like a bad repair on one corner

One front wing rusted, other slight bubbling

Rust along bottom of boot

Scratch on drivers door

Rear door slightly the wrong colour & lacquer peel

Drivers mirror looks although it's been painted and the lacquer has reacted - flat back & paint again if youre fussed.

Few other dings and scratches and bits of rust.

I bought this literally to jump in and drive to work, it has a couple of running issues (hence new header tank etc)

Firstly. Has a fault which is something like "charge pressure negative deviation" basically, you can make this happen by holding at a constant throttle/load and it will go into a kind of limp mode, no engine light or anything though, literally key off and on and it's fine. Could be a small boost leak, possibly MAP sensor or maybe even the actuator isn't correctly adjusted on the recon turbo. If you drive along and lightly feather the throttle it won't do it. I have got used to this, common fault on these cars, as I'm used to it I never really looked into it.

Secondly. It loses coolant through being pressurised and pushed out the overflow on header tank. Believe this may be a combustion leak, or possibly the water pump not circulating properly as sometimes the heater randomly blows cold. New waterpump included, never got round to changing it if it is that, when I changed the stat, the impellor felt intact, but it could be spinning on the shaft. If you drive it on boost lots or higher speeds (say sitting at 85) it will go up to around 100 degrees, or just push coolant out quicker. I literally drive it steadily at 60-70 to work and back (50 miles a day) and its fine, top up every 5-800 miles maybe? If you want to blast around or go fast on the motorway, expect to top up maybe every 200 miles, I probably top it up every 3 weeks driving steadily. I drove around 1200 miles without topping it up, including driving to Gatwick airport, doesnt overheat in traffic or anything.

The issues havnt gotten any worse, infact changing the stat did help. As driving it steady makes the problem pretty minor, and saves lots of fuel I never really could be bothered to sort it out. Trip computer currently says 58mpg average, its a bit ambitious, but actual maths of fuel I put in, works out to around 53-55mpg.

May need a damper on the LHF as has a knock and the body control seems reduced when youre relying on that - about £30 probably, easy to change as everythings free'd off from the springs being changed.

Just trying to be honest, isn't a bad car, few bits tidying up and running issues resolved it would be decent, but even now you can use it fine, I have been, just wanting something nicer whilst iv got some cash.

After about £650, few people on here have been in it, and driven it actually, a few people have said thats a pretty cheap price too, as they know I use it daily with no issues.

Just PM and questions, isn't as bad as it seems, I'm happy to use it, just a bit tatty, but a cheap reliable car. Tax is £125 a year iirc.

OP updated, need rid ASAP due to having a 2 car driveway and 7 or 8 cars at home :)

Also, some of the pics of ''shitty bits'' were before I washed it.

PM if you want my number to discuss.

If you wanna view this you'll need some form of insurance - not just cover from your policy. Or trade plates etc.

Think it could be water pump still, like I say there's one included, and you won't have to do the cambelt as its been done.

Driving this to work and back yesterday, I actually quite like it, easy life. Pretty pokey actually.

Need rid though really!

New car tomorrow.

Used this all week. Tried to drive a bit quicker and with a bit more boost than usual, still pressurises but I haven't had to top it up.

Don't be too put off, all iv done is listed things people usually miss then you get pissed off at when you go to look.

Water pump now changed. Still pressurises, just want rid of it.

Also got a new OEM dogbone (engine steady) mount to go on, was about £60!

Ideal work horse unless you rag it everywhere.

Kinda a bit sad to be selling this, treated me well.

Also has a Revo remap, it's around 120hp I think.
