I parked up in the *cough* wonderful *cough* city of Peterborough today to go shopping, paid £3.50 for my ticket (4 hours) at 11:46, got back to my car at about 2:15 and saw a parking ticket on my windscreen. At first I thought it was a friend playing a joke on me, opened my car door and my parking ticket was on my seat. Reason for them giving me a ticket was because my ticket was not CLEARLY on display. That is ridiculous because if they had paid a bit more attention, they would have been able to read it. I am going to make an appeal on Monday when the office opens. Does anyone what information I can give, what I should say etc to get me off the hook?

Make sure you have the ticket and ask for photo proof of your car as they need this to be be able to fine you. They should take 3 photos 1 from in front then one from both side of the car looking in so if it was on the seat it should be visible in one of these photos. So with a bit of luck you should get let off. Most of the time if you put up a bit of fuss the let you off anyway as you did pay for a ticket. Good luck

A parking ticket fell off my windscreen, but I got off the penalty charge. It was a cold day, the condensation must have affected the glue or somesuch.

In my appeal I stated that I'd parked at 8:50am, when there was an attendant present.

I'd been working all day from 9:00am.

The ticket wasn't issued until 3:45pm.

So the ticket had been on display when I left my car. As I'd not had a charge issued before, the car park let me off the hook. It was a council one however, not sure private car parks are as fair.

Private car park PENALTY you can ignore them. They are unenforceable invoices.

You will get a few scary letters that can also be ignored and then nothing at all.

Use the Google and theres loads of info on private parking companies.

Council/Police ones are another matter.

So if you can ignore and they're not enforcable...next time I'm in a private car park i just wont pay ?

Have just checked through some of the Forums and it seems a certain aggressive PPC are now taking people to county court for non payment, something most companies didnt bother with due to cost and the high chance of loosing there case. Obviously Civil Enforcement Ltd dont give a flying fuck.

Most PPC's pay shit wages, treat staff like objects and give no staff support or incentives to even do the job. Most people doing the job are in it for the easy life and the level of work done is equal to the wage they are on (fuck all normally), a job made even easier by not handing out charge notices.

What was the name of the company who issued it?

It was a council car park. £50 unless I pay it in the first 14 days, then it is only £25. BARGAIN! It says on the ticket if I refuse to pay and do not appeal, they will request the information from the DVLA and I will be charged for that too. Also, if I make an appeal, I lose the right to the 14 day discount so if I am found to be in the wrong after making an appeal, it will cost me £50

The ticket was from Peterborough City Council

The 14 day discount bollocks suggests that's not council, could be a private company running council car parks. Have you still got the ticket that fell off? If it was me I'd send them a picture of it & tell them to get fucked. Or just ignore it.

^^^the rules differ if its a PPC working for the council. Most of the ignore it stuff only applies to PPC's that cover private land if the land is council owned then they may be subject to the same powers via that council.

I do agree ddo that the 14day discount doesn't sound like something an internal council parking enforcement group would use.

I am aware that PPC's contracted to do council/Police traffic warden street work are covered by the rules of the organisation that took out the contract.

It also changes if the PPC actually owns the land your parked on.

in Blackpool they have stupid 'non stick' tickets at the council car parks that are printed on what looks liek till reciept paper, which if you shut your door to hard flip off the dash!

in any case I've experienced the same as you, only my ticket had blown upside down, reduced if paid early and it was 100% a council car park too, i went to the town hall and gave them the ticket and the penalty notice and it stopped there, NO fine and NO repercussions :)

to add; the attendant that gave me the ticket was in the building and i confronted him - he was a idiot about it after i was polite and asked him "what up" so got a face full of tyre smoke.

Tickets are exactly the same in Peterborough. Problem us, it's almost 25 miles to go there and thry are only open 9am - 2pm and i'm at work so can't get to the office to do anything about it. Think I will have to pay and then appeal to get my money back
