Any of you had trouble getting the rear engine steady off? The 18mm. She won't budge!

Its a bit of a pig for access, and the design after 1994 models means you can't get even a deep socket on there and have to use a spanner, then you have leverage issues in the space available. A mallet against a ring spanner is one way, if you do the job as regularly as me you chop a spare ring spanner in half and slot a bar over it.

Its not as if the bolt is torqued up particularly hard, its not, its just that its in an aluminium thread which is more grippy than steel. So they coulda used a 16mm head, so that a spark plug socket could extend a deep socket. But this is VW we're talking about here - they probably sell a special tool for the job..

You can get in fine on a 6n or an 86/c ?? Lol
