Have a look on the bay dude, there was one in there for 250.

A bit pricey but there not exactly common.

Yeah just messaged them for the mileage.

My problem is theres a grinding noise in neutral - Whistling noise at speed regardless of clutch - Grinding at low revs (cant hear it higher) especially if you let the engine revs take you - 2nd gear a bit crunchy when cold

Been told by central VW to leave it, mainly because their not sure what it is think

So do i get it reconned for £500+ or spend half that on a chance?

The choice is yours really, drop the oil out of your box and see if there's any swarf in there, sounds like it will have to be tripped for diagnosis anyway sound like a bearing issue how ever vw have had problems with the rivets for the diff but iv not heard many diesels suffering with that.

And leaving it is the worst thing you can do, because if it shits its self big time there's no going back, but there is nothing to say it won't do another 10k.

And if your keeping the car for a while I would get it reconned and make sure you get a decent warranty with it, but of your planning to get rid, i would buy second hand, some breakers offer a 28 day warranty which is piece of mind.

I plan on keeping it.

Had it changed last year and it was fine. Personally i think its the diff and the input shaft bearing.

Iv got breakdown cover to anywhere in the UK so my backup plan is to get it towed there.

They said that theres no danger of it blowing up, just getting worse.

I'm doing a trip down south 600 mile so ill see what its like, usually it gets louder when going motorway speeds for a while.

Hi mate,

I've got a 2000 1.4 TDI Polo that I'm breaking as my girlfriend has crashed it.

I have most parts including the gear box, what has no fault. Email me if interested.

Cheers

Ash

Has it been reconed or something?

Dont really want to put a 130k mile gearbox in a 45k mile car.

No it's the box that came with the car as far as I know ,I baught it from a elderly bloke that had it from new. It's never game me any problems and has always slipped in to gear spot on for me. If you want it mate ill take £150 for it as I just need some money back from the car

For one that has done 130k id only really be willing to pay £50 due to hassle of putting it in etc. There are second hand with 50k for £250 on ebay.

£50 a bit low mate but I'd drop it to £120 as I can sell it for that anyday on eBay.

Just picked one up today, 67k £200 with 1 month warrantee.

Iv read the elsawin guide to take out out and the topic here: http://www.clubpolo.co.uk/forum/index.php?...=315057&hl=

So its basically;

Remove passenger ball joint

Remove driveshafts

Remove Starter

Remove Linkages

Remove slave cylinder

Remove reverse light/speedo

Remove inspection plate

Support engine

Remove gearbox

Sounds too easy, can anyone comment on what the TDI's are like?

Also what needs to be renewed when refitting a gearbox as i know they use the stretch bolts?
