Needs a brake pipe for the mot, plans are to fit a decent lowering kit (koni probably)

And some nice wheels, not sure what yet, its a good feeling no being limited by shit rear arches!

I was going to put the engine in my breadvan, it was super cheap but when I got it home I had a good look at it and its immaculate.

Can't break it, simply can't :-)

Well the back box is bodged to hell, its got about 4 clamps within 8 inches of each other lol and the tail pipe is a bit of scaffold pole.

So will be cutting it off and welding a straight bit of pipe in place for now, with a rolled tip maybe

I want a decent lowering kit because the ta technix on my breadvan are horrendous, great handling but its just awful

I'm not sure on wheels either, I want some wellers potentially but alleycats would suit too

Nothing else I can really think of to do to it really!

Just an update on this, it was nowhere near as good as I thought, failed mot on 19 things (previous owner told me it was one thing), underseal can hide a multitude of sins,

it needed a fair bit of welding -

Had to replace half the drivers floor

Repair outer sill

Repair Rear chassis section

Repair a couple of small patches on the floor

Repair drivers inner sill

Repair passengers front wing arch (found after removing arch trims)

Repair passengers rear arch

Repair a section of passengers rear quarter panel

Have replaced both track cotnrol arms, upgraded brakes to vw2s with vented discs and braided hoses

Most of the brake pipes were totally rotten

Rear shocks were leaking

Handbrake cable had most of the wires snapped

Rear brake shoes were crap

Exhaust was knackered

All in all it only cost me about £170 to fix due to doing it all myself, if I couldn't weld this car would most certainly of been broken!

Due to welding some body panels it needs a new paint job, so for now it's going to be rattle canned matt grey, which should look decent enough

MOT hopefully next saturday - task then is to make some coilovers and source some decent wheels (alleycats most likely)

Can smell a little petrol from oil filler cap, hopefully just because I've only been driving it up and down the drive and not because of knackered piston rings

Though I do have a spare bottom end

Yeah - he was a proper idiot too, ad title was "polo coupe gt spears or reparis"

I actually sold the wheel arch trims, I prefer it without them but I paid the price having to repair the arches.

It's pretty much sorted now apart from a brake pipe and paint :-D

If you were going to fit them I would seal the area under them like mad with some decent paint

Weirdly one side of the car was perfect under them - the side I took off first, so I got my hopes up then discovered the crapness

It spent a lot of time in arbroath next to the sea, so my theory is salty air.

Blimey thatsalot of welding.At least it's getting done. When you hoping to be driving by?

It's good to see someone putting the work in to keep it on the road, most people would have sent it to the scrap man at the first sign of rust. Respect for keeping it alive!

Miss my gt so much, best car i have ever owned, imho

Quite agree with the see air having got to this one, i bough a g40 10yrs ago from the west coast and although the body was fine the floor pan and sills were rough.

Cheers chaps, its been a bit a lot of work but all I need to do is make an exhaust, bleed the brakes and paint it now.

I snapped a bleed nipple when trying to bleed the brakes yesterday (useless chocolate vw bleed nipples) so I drilled and tapped it out to 3/8" and fitted a ford bleed nipple

I'm slightly worried the taper won't seat but I tend to over think things like this, so it will probably be fine

Provided the other caliper's bleed nipple doesn't snap I should be fine, can always put the old brakes on till I sort it out if not.

I couldn't scrap this, there aren't that many GTs left and I've really grown to like the coupe shape

DAVID & JACOB - This is exactly what mine was like, it seems the tin worm has got under a fair bit of the vw underseal, and its not until your foot goes through the floor that you notice!

Turns out my suspicions were correct and the bleed nipple is leaking

Back on with the vw1s until I can afford a new caliper, what with mot, insurance etc

Made an exhaust today, its a piece of shit made from whatever pipe I have lying about, but its fine as a temporary thing to get me through the mot.

It'll certainly be a push to get it painted etc for next saturday, but if I dont manage it it won't matter, it'll just look shit lol!

It looks far better in that picture than it actually is, its needed quite a lot of welding and still needs a bit more, and a respray

But thats it, so it should also be done too, but the gt is first due to needing a better daily than a carbed breadvan

Of course I don't mind, if I could have just classic cars I would, but just too many issues using them day to day

So polos are a nice compromise :-)

Thats a nice list of cars, corsair is essentially a mk1 cortina :-) I love a p6 myself, I'd easily consider buying one if I had space

My dad did alot of work on it though(i bought a dog) he welded the whole thing up and rebuilt the rear callipers and put new rear brakes on (they are inboard).

This polo is an everyday runner but a classic for me aswell. Id love another p6 in the future though.

My vitesse will be taking up most of my money though as in the future i want it to run about 400bhp.

It will cost about £4000 to do but its a forever car as my dad gave it to me. He built a full stainless exhaust from the turbo back and done other bits to it.

The vitesse is running a t series engine. Standard they put out 200bhp and they are very torquey.

To get the car to run 400 bhp ill have to have forge pistons,rods, uprated camshafts and different management.

Standard the car is 7 to 60 and on to approx 150mph standard.

I should add i dont smoke or drink so i have a fair bit of cash each month but i still find I'm skint at the end though.

I'm the same, dont drink or smoke but always, always end up with no money, but I'm on a rubbish apprentice wage at the moment
