Are BMX bikes with off-road tyres a thing or is that a stupid idea? I want to get into light off-roading on a bike but I'm way too short for a proper mountain bike.

and i used to do alot of mountain biking, but stopped once i got a bike with an engine. just getting back into it now though. used to ride a claud butler ravana... well when i say ravana, i mean i ravana frame with uprated everything. and I've still got that bike so I'm doing it up to take back out mountain biking again. very tempted to stickerbomb the entire frame though means if i scratch it or whatever, i can just cover it with a sticker and its sorted

But that actually requires buying one I had one too but I put road tyres on it pretty soon after buying it. I've been offered a bike-with-an-engine for £50 but I just can't justify it.

Yamaha DT 125. I do want it but I don't have a CBT, any gear or a way of getting it back here easily then there's the shit my mum would give me (my dad has a bike so he doesn't get a say He just said there is nowhere to put it). Probably too late now as they emailed me on Sunday and said they just needed it gone ASAP.

It is a road legal bike, doubt it has an MOT or anything though. 1997 model.

Picked up this Forme last Saturday for the work commute

Did a Sky Ride on the Sunday and have another one booked in a couple of weeks... and just put my name down for the RideLondon 100mile ride... oh what have I done!

I need a work commute bike, pointless using a car now i'm close to work, getting some inspiration for something rather different. We don't cycle on roads in MK, we have a 'redway system' complete pedestrian/cycleway network and the bike for this should be tarmac bias yet flexible enough for the kerbs, stairs etc.

Been using my Granddad's old circa 1970 Dawes Kingpin this week, a 20" wheeled shopper with 3-speed Sturmey Archer gearing (the little whitewalls are too skinny and the frame flexes when pushed, it's out of it's depth on performance and it's certainly a look you have to go with) but it's really had me looking back to the drawing board regarding what i need. It's absolutely identical to this one:

I'm thinking - jump tyres like Erics on well-laced 26's, X-Trail type frame of around 14-17in (preferably steel) exposing a seat post capable of retracting a foot, big sprung tourer saddle, Sturmey Archer type hub gears (8-11 speed) possibly with twin ring crank to double that, raised bars, rigid forks (preferably carbon), hydraulic disc on the front (no rear brake), mudguards, and front rack/basket for my lunch lol

So a sort of tough fixie urban tourer, a purposeful version of a cruiser or a track bike on steroids. Would probably have to build it from scratch..

I'm sure the BMX I had in the 1980s had off road tyres. Well not seriously off road, but they were pretty knobbly and not slicks. I rode it so much I wore them smooth.....

You don't need suspension and springs for roads, it just slows you down. A decent frame should soak up the bumps. My road bike has a steel frame and fork, and it's a pretty smooth ride over the Manchester potholes.

Anyway if you want discs, hub gear (shimano Alfine), ability to carry a rear rack and MTB geometry, many hybrids offer that.

Look up a Scott Sub or a Sportster. My Sportster hybrid is cooming on for 4 years old and it's had a very hard life. I've even ridden it down a flight of steps with two loaded panniers...

Full rigid yeah - i like the nature of a steel frame, i'd go for stainless over carbon if only i could afford it. But carbon is the best stuff for forks to minimize fatigue in the arms.

Yeah i can have a rear disc with a hub, but i don't really need a back brake. And certainly not a disc. A full rigid with one brake allows me to focus the budget on quality for what i do need.

Had a full suss Marin for past 10 years.

Fit 40 earlier this year, so built myself a 24" BMX up.

Last BMX I had was a P.K Ripper in 1989 when I was at school.
