Afaik they can't ve used without changing the complete lion, reason for this is because the 6n2 uses crank and cam sensors which aren't on the AFH, the crank sensor can be retrofitted but I doubt the cam sensor can be used. And the AFH uses a distributor and the 6n2 wiring uses a coil pack. It can be done but it would be a lot easier to get another engine.

So in other words its not a plug and play sort of thing?

No it isn't.

What's wrong with the engine in their now?

I got a 6n doner car i wanna take the loom out and engine and straight into the 6n2 Can that be done cos alot people said they are the same chassis ?

my 6n2 gearbox is gone and the whole engine is miss firing badly so i wanted to throw in a AFH

so the bits unrelated to the engine itself are broken, so your solution is to fit another engine?

whattttttt

to get a gearbox in is gonna cost me 650 where I'm from and its a stupid price so i rather get a engine for near enough the same price thats why i asked if its possibly to get the loom into a 6n2 and run a AFH engine

The problem you will have trying to fit the AFH is your car uses CAN bus info from the ECU and the AFH ECU does'nt have a CAN bus output, So you'd need to source a non CAN bus speedo from a Lupo and even then other things might not work correctly like the ABS, aircon etc.

It is a huge job, if you wanted to put your engine into a 6n, it would work. But not the other way round.

The chassis are the same. But the electronics are tottally different.

Why not just get a used gearbox? Or use the one from the 6n? Your in east London, I'm sure there are at least a few breakers in your area, have you tried asking around? A used tested one will run around £150-200 at the most. Or have a look on eBay you can get a decent one for a bargain price.

Missfire could be a gasket at the most. So may well be worth diagnosing it before scrapping it.

Ahh was really hoping I can throw in a afh :(

What about a Gti Lump?

I can't really scrap the car cos my polo is on Air ride which I just got done (N)

Lol. I ment the engine be scraped.

Why do you want an AFH ? It's the same output as the 16v isn't it?

A polo gti? Yes Thar will fit. But you will need the loom and ecu still as it isn't the same as the 1.4. Easier then the AFH though.

where I'm from (which also happens to be london, like yourself) i changed the gearbox on mine for about £60.

See, this is a dumb question, right.

Buuutttt, since the 1.4 units are all the same. The GTi inlet bolts onto the AFH head. Starter fits. The crank sensor fits. The knock sensor fits.

Temp fits, and oil fits.

I think it'll fit. Keep your 1.4 loom, ecu and all the ancilleries and just drop them onto a bare AFH..

so adam are you saying a AFH can be mouted on a 6n2 with the afh loom and be all plugged into a the interior ect?

Actually, no, the cam sensor.

Bollocks. Everything lower end can be dealt with, but you need to find a way to fool the cam sensor..

Maybe AFH block with AUB head? (or whatever head you have)

ahh great! :(

i just looked at a tread build on a Lupo with a AFH engine and was running fine so i dont understand why it cant go in my 6n2

It can, it's just in that lupo they changed the whole electrical system to a 6n system. It's totally doable, but will take ages and will no doubt be a major bollock ache.

But still, what's stopping you from fixing your current one? If you already have the AFH setup then surely you could swap someone for a 6n2 setup (AUA,AUB,ARC or AVY) or sell it on and buy one?
