Just got my first polo, any tips/advice?

Featured Replies

How's it going, just got passed down a 2000 6n2 Vw from my uncle, 1L engine.

Does anyone have any tips or things or I should look out for. And at the moment the car is as basic as it gets. Currently trying to track down the 6n2 cup holder so if anyone can helpe out please do! Few bumps and scratches all round would it be worth fixing? And finally, is there anything else you would recommend purchasing? Thanks

Thinks to look out for and what I've experienced problems with are;

the pedal box, likes to just give up...

electric windows (are shit)

central locking can be a bit tempremental on them.

thermostat housing can break etc.

I've got a 1.4 16v, which has had all the above in my ownership haha.

get some pictures up and have a look at other projects? i was new to vw with my polo and got inspiration from a few forums similar to this etc, usually a nice set of wheels and a bit of a drop makes them look bang on :D

Ill take a few pictures a throw them up, any ideas with speakers it's only a 3 door so it only had 1 in each of the doors they're a little quiet to say the least. I'm not too keen on lowering it as in Ireland there are new "bus friendly" speed bumps, instead of one going across the road there's are 1 in each lane. A bus is just about wide enough to go over these bumps clean but they're almost a foot tall and a pain for any other car. Will lowering the car not damage the undercarriage or side skirt?

I'm in Ireland, don't be a pussy and slam it :p go up the middle of them speed bumps simples :) what part you from?

Dublin, I despise them bumps, doing my test in a few months and if you don't go over them perfectly straight you get a grade 2, 4 of them bumps wrong and ill fail! How much would I cost me to lower it? I heard coilovers and can be pricey

If you go over them wrong 4 times in a row then yes! Or with 7 other faults. It's not too hard to go over them right though. You just wouldn't get by with a lowered car :(
