Hey there. Been lurking on here for quite some time but never really posted much in the last while after i got rid of the Eaton G40. I thought I'd throw up a topic to show what I've been up to. Anyone that knows me knows I love Polo's, I've had a few including an Eaton Supercharged G40 that is now blasting around Wales somewhere.

I bought this car a few months ago as a cheap work hack (any excuse to get another Polo really) to use before I move to Canada in Oct/Nov.

Its a 91 CL 1 litre 5 speed with 150k on the clock. It's reasonably well looked after, the engine runs very quietly and is insanely economical and on the plus side Breadvan's really aren't common sights on the road here anymore. After a few months of driving around in it and having been laid off I've decided to strip it down and fix all of the niggly problems that have been grinding at me since I bought it.

Here are a few pics of it before I started. As you can see there have been some pretty dodgy mods added, including what looks like nail varnish on the heater dials (and steering wheel), no headunit and a duct tape gear gaitor...The window winder also snapped a day before the MOT test.

I've been slowly hoarding parts to get it back to as close to factory as possible and for a quick tidy. That snowballed out of control and ended up with me buying a shed load of spares and parts which will be added in the coming weeks.

MY plans are as follows -

Full respray in original LY3D Tornado Red with deleted aerial hole, partially smoothed boot lid and maybe delete the side repeaters.

Lowered 70mm

6N Polo Steels with G60 caps

Joey modded headlights

Badgeless grill

GLaderseite ARB blocks and uprated TCA bushings

Tidying the interior to original spec

This is the double garage that will be turned into a booth in the next week or so..

The boot lid on the Polo was badly rotten, so I picked up what seems to be the only spare van lid in the whole of Ireland, and it had been badly hit at the bottom. I've cut out and welded up the washer jet, rear badge recess / Polo badge location holes and wiper motor hole. I realise the plate welded in behind may not be the best idea for a long term fix, but it will smarten up the rear some and anything is an improvement.

Also got the interior heater controls changed back to OEM and found an original Blaupunkt head unit from a mates G40.

The weather was hot as hell today so I managed to get the car fully stripped and prepped the bonnet. Here are a load of pics. This is it for now, more updates will come as I work at it.

Progress has been slowed slightly with me hitting a festival, playing drunken cod, finding some rust and general commitments. Here is some more pics of what i've been up to.

The front slam panel had some surface rust and was basically just a bit rough looking, so i stripped it back with a wire wheel and painted it with textured black. This obviously isnt going to be a show car but the finish should be reasonably good and purposeful..

After stripping the front end some more i found the battery tray was a real mess, some rot had eaten right through to the inner arch and the cabin. I fabricated a piece to patch in the hole and ground it back to look as factory as possible. The battery tray and inner arches where then zinc'd and treated with underbody sealant to try and slow any future rust coming through. Battery trays in the mk2f's are always a problematic area so i saw this coming, still, somewhat disheartening.

I then set to get the first skim on the drivers side door and rear quarter. Not to far away, maybe another 3-4 hours work and it'll be lovely and straight. May need a small patch this side at the rear arch but ill get a proper look at it on monday.

Next on the list is to weld up the repeater holes in both wings, the drivers side aerial hole and get them all painted before the doors are removed and i can push on further.
