Take the EGR Valve off (2 minute job) and get the part number.

Stick that part number in eBay and you should find one.

Try both combinations of the part number though ie. with spaces and without spaces between the letters/numbers

You might even be able to see the part number without taking it off.

*EDIT*

Looking on eBay, with the compatibility checker you get on some listings, the 1.4 will fit on a 1.0

If you get the part number I can check it against one i have lying around in garage which died on me a few month back from a 1.4

From your local VW stealership or TPS if you have one near you, You might find one on ebay if you search with that p/number

#4 8Nm

#6 10Nm

#7 8Nm

#8 Renew

Unbolt it and spray it with carb cleaner and as far as possible with an old toothbrush.

If you put 12v onto pins 1 & 5 of the valve body, you should hear the valve click

cheers pal will give this a try and see if it stops the problem

Also check fuse #30 5 Amp as it supplies the power to the valve

cleaned one last week on an astra diesel. very easy to do as nige8021 said. after you finished you will need to get the error message delete from the ECU. as dash light may stay on til the error deleted

The price you quoted is a little dear. Euro Car Parts sell them for less and most branches will carry stock of the OE part and an aftermarket alternative (HAAS) and will price match too.
