Getting Car Un-SORN with Tax still on

Featured Replies

I declared SORN a couple of weeks ago as I had received a letter telling me I would get a fine as I had no insurance on the car.

So I rang DVLA up and got the car SORN with a month of tax left.

As I knew that I wanted to get the car on the road again within the next month i never went for a tax refund and left it on. I've now got til the end of the month left on my tax disc but not sure how I will get the SORN taken off the car. All I can find is that you have to tax the car to take the SORN off but with the car already having some tax left where do I stand?

your car wont be taxed now, just because your disc hasnt run out doesnt mean its taxed. you should have taken the disc to the po to get a refund. you can tax it as normal to get it on the road...

Declaring a car as SORN invalidates the tax regardless of what the disc says. Just put a new tax disc in it once it's insured.

Cheers guys!

Sucks that it invalidates it. Only had it SORN for just over a week and want it back on road again.

They definitely know how to get your money haha

yep, robbing bastards

There pretty slow at giving money back on a refund I've noticed

a 4 week wait, then some more wait for the cheque to clear

Rang DVLA up to find out official dealing with a car which has been made SORN but still in possession of tax disc and they re-instated the tax for me.

I received a letter today also explaining that my tax disc has been re-instated which had saved me a months tax
