OK, so it came to the weekend and i couldn't source a decent engine hoist anywhere so i took matters into my own hands and threw the rule book out the window, getting the engine in was my aim for the day.

i managed to get my hands on a dolly and three ladders........

as you can see health and safety was a priority

with a bit off pulling and pushing it went in without touching the sides

i even managed to keep the original alternator using a couple of brackets.

ARB blocks and poly bushes have been fitted all round.

You cant see it in any of the pics but i have also fitted red and black chequered golf mkII seats front and back, the front were a straight swap but the back needed modding.

I'm trying to run the original injection but the wiring is a nightmare, I've got both looms, just waiting for an afh fuse box, then I'm going to try and run everything needed for the engine on the afh loom and fuse box and then everything for the dash board off the old polo loom and fuse box.

Has anyone done this who is willing to give advice on how the monster headache should be tackled.

I'm in the middle of cutting the unwanted wires, Central locking, electric windows etc but I've kept the 6n fuel pump wiring and I'm going to try and join it to the mk3 pump wiring.

Once youve got all the wires you don't need out, its a lot easier to get your head around.

There's two types of afh loom too, one with three plugs to join into the engine loom and another with a round plug

Not updated in a long time due to being away and coming back to uni but this weekend finally managed to get round to having a go at wiring the engine in.... Got round to Turing her over and it spluttered for a few seconds the first time I tried to start it so I thought that I wasn't getting fuel but it is getting fuel as the fuel pump is priming and working off the 6n fusebox but it won't turn over I have checked to see if it's getting spark and it's not I really am stuck atm the immibiliser and transponder are wired in so I I don't know what the cause of this could be any ideas would be greatly appreciated

There you go mate they say mk2 but they fit mk2f aswell

Hi mate bodywork looks great welldone, I'm surprised you went through all that effort getting the engine in when you could just slid it in from underneath

I don't actually know what make the sills are but they are a ok fit don't really need that much modification

I know but had the bay painted and as the afh is a little bigger the clearance isn't that much and I didn't want to damage the new paint

Any updates on this?

I've had mine on the road for six months and I'm loving it!

Fair play! Looks good, yeah I've had a bit of change in direction for the conversion but with uni and work not really had much time to work on the polo but updates to come shortly 😝
