Audi 80 Convertable

Featured Replies

Alright chaps...

Been a polo boy for over 10 years now! I've had an armfull of em. But aside from the odd Corrado (and a mk3 golf for some reason) Polos are all I've ever had.

I decided it was time for something a bit different, so I bought myself an Audi!

Audi 80 Cabriolet 2.0.

Love them or hate them i dont care, I think its a wicked bit of fun for when the suns out! :)

I've had it since march, He are the basics:

Audi 80 Cabriolet 2.0 5 speed with electric roof. LEts not beat about the bush here, the car is not fast.. in fact, its slow. Dont get me wrong, itll keep up on the motor way and has the guts to over take, but thats about it. I think the book on this is 115BHP. All three of my polos have got more then that and they must about a third of what this does!

Since I've had it i have:

Full service, timing belt, oil change, the lot! ALL the distribution has been replaced with the best stuff i could find. Magnecore HT leads and Bosch spark plugs as well as a new coil and distributor and rotor arm.

Spent a fair bit of time and money on everything under the arches as well as it was a bit of a "boat" to drive. So i ordered some H&R cup suspension for it which dropped it 60mm. I've replaced everything under the arches to.... Wishbones, drop links, drive shafts, bushes, along with the suspension, she now drives a lot better!

I've also put reconditioned calipers in up front (which i painted Red) I'm yet to do the back but i plan to do this there too.

On the outside, when i got her she had quiet a big dent in the front wing and a few other little scratch's. I've had these sorted at a body shop and now with a couple of coats of wax it comes out great!

I did the basics on day one, like clear indicators and new clean number plates (just stuff that looked old and grotty) and de-badged the the boot lid.

Inside I've fitted a touch screen DVD/Ipod head unit and some Rockford Fosgate speakers, I've bought an Amp and sub for the boot but I'm yet to get that fitted.

Thats about it for now, plans for the future are:

Next thing is the WHEELS! i HATE the ones that are on there, but i wanted to get it sorted mechanically before i spent money on rims. Multi fit, cheap and kurbed rims are not exactly doing the car any favors, so come pay day next month I'm on the hunt for a new set.. STILL scratching my head as to which, but i do have it narrowed down in my head. With it being a 4x108 PCD its proving a bit hard to find good rims.

Anyway.. thats enough for now.. ill let the pics do the talking... Tell me what you think :)

Thats my GTI next to it :)

That look lovely!

These are gangster! 8-)

That's cool don't forget fords are or were 4x108 so should be a good few sets of rims to choose from.

Personally I think a set of Azev As would look right at home on there.

Never really been a fan of CC's but that's a beauty!!

Wheels are a little too big IMO but still it's a lovely looking motor

Cheers chaps,

:) Its seems to be going down well. Might take it to edition later in the year.

Regarding the wheels... i just CAN NOT decide.

A LOT of people say 18's are to big, but I've got a fixed drop, not adjustable coilovers, and, as much as i THINK id prefer some 17's.. my only worry is that i dont want to end up with some huge arch gap..

Air ride would be the way forward... but i looked into it for the Audi, and lets just say its currently not an option... lol

Mini update:

started my boot build today, not finished yet, but you can see how its gonna look. Just waiting on some black carpet to come i ordered from Ebay :)

The boots not massive on these, and i hate filling up the space with a huge sub box. So I'm building a box myself in to the side so thats its neater. :)

Bit of an update:

Got my new wheels on, had them on a while in fact.

They are 9j's on the back, and the exsisting tyre gave a good stretch. The fronts are 8j and so i think i wanna get some new tyres for them as the profile seems off.

Anyway, I'm happy with them.

Also finished my boot build, but I'm not to happy with the sound. Its a 12 inch sub, so i should be able to hear it come through, but i dont think I've got it set up right.
