hello all,

got this car at the weekend and pretty happy with it as was just what i was after.

anyway I'm a classic mini man at heart and so pretty compitent in the way of knowing my way around a car. however these "new" (i say new loosely) engines n what not are still new to me so i have a few questions i guess as i'm doing a service and wonder if any of you can help a man in need.

- manifolds (worth doing)

- throttle body (is it cable or this fly by wire as i have a delay on when i rev the engine and its bugging me)

- coil overs (are there any decent ones out there?)

- know of where i can get a workshop manual or is there any useful guides on here (open to DL if people wanna pm me)

- general tips for owning one of these?

anyway really look forward to owning this and getting it around. wont be anything fancy just normal euro stuff.

That's a tidy base start, you can get decent coilovers... You literally get what you pay for though anything from £150-800+

All depends what kind of ride your after.

I'm sure someone will have workshop guides for you (probably Nigel as he has/knows a hell of a lot)

What do you want to do to your manifold?

I'm guessing if your a mini man you mean fitting a 4 branch manifold in my experience I was surprised at the result of fitting a 4 branch along with a de cat. It was quicker and faster revving in the higher rev range.

As stated coilovers are what you pay for them and depends what you want with them. Meaning if you just want lows then the cheap ones are perfect but are pretty hard on ride quality.

thanks guys, no idea what spec it is but has all the toys and is 20mm lowered on springs atm. i was thinking that was the case with the coil overs. mate of mine mentioned FK or something, seem pretty cheap but theres so many out there!

at the moment the car feels a bit strangled i know deep down it wants to rev a bit faster but cant. so far i've changed the panel filter and once i work out the throttle lag/delay issue i think as you say a full decat system.... but probably have a subtle rear exhaust as i do not want it to droney or loud being a daily; may even keep the std rear box as its hidden.

Yeah n my I have a 4 branch de cat and straight through centre to standard back box and its not to load it is raspy though which I like and only drones if in 5 gear and full throttle.

Fk are the cheaper ones but do the job perfectly fine and around £160-£200 mark

ah excellent, kinda what I'm after. if you dont mind me asking what manifold you use. is it only the raceland one thats about?

haha we will see, I'm hoping it will be a nice simple style but there are a million out there like it so wont be to special as the mini is the main money pit esp as I'm aiming for about 150-180 bhp from that

I don't know really there's a few diffrent makes I got my second hand really cheap so don't know what make it is. But I've seen stainless ones on eBay for 150.

I was searching about last night and ot myself a bit confused a bit i think as the last car i owned that had a cat was a 106 rallye; however are the cats in the manifold itself now and no longer in the middle of the link pipe?

it had 125-30 last time and that was ok reliable power, but that was only with a t2 and was out of puff by 5k rpm.

Depending on the engine code, you might have two cats!! one in the manifold a pre-cat and another in the normal place

thanks for the reply, right now to search where to find the engine code :) funny when you get a new car even if you think you know a lot about another its always like driving on the opposite side of the road lol

The engine code will be in a few places, on a sticker on the cambelt cover, in the boot on a paper sticker like this http://flic.kr/p/aioULE The V5 should also have the code as the first three letters of the engine serial number are the code AUA,AUB or something like that, it's also stamped into the block under the thermostat housing but unless you remove that it's almost imposible to see

Sorry for the delay, been manic with working etc etc. Engine code is AUB, no idea what that means but i'll do a few searches... hopfully only has 1 cat! on a different subject does anyone have any site sof rpoly engine mounts or to adjust the gear linkage?
