Just bought some tax for the beetle at the post office. I have the disc, and I wasn't told of any problems by the girl at the till, so does this mean I definitely have car tax? I've just got home to check online whether my SORN status has changed to Licensed, but it hasn't (granted it has only been around 2 hours..). I've also assumed that my tax hasn't been put on the police ANPR database either yet?

My only worry is because I have had a period of the car being unlicensed, about a year ago, and I am told that you can get fines for this. This was back in early 2012, but I didn't get any warnings back then, even after I SORN'd the car to end that period of "unlicense-ment". I am worried that there may still be an outstanding fine for the car, which may stop the vehicle being taxed. I'm worried that I've been given this tax disc by the post office, but when the database is checked and they find this fine, it may reverse the transaction, and I'll get pulled over in an ANPR check and be left in the shit.

Could this happen? Is it possible that the post office could give me a tax disc which may later be rejected by the DVLA? Or do they do online checks for that sort of thing before giving me my disc?

Its a friday afternoon. DVLA go home early, most likely wont show up till monday.

Your car is taxed and they wont take if off you,if you get pulled by the police its because it hasn't updated on the system,but you have the disc.

outstanding fines if any will have no bearing on your new shiny tax disc.

yeah it can take a couple of days to show on the database, if you get pulled tell them you've just taxed it and they will check the disk and let you go on your way.

unless you've had a letter assume you haven't had a fine, they would have sent you a few letters and had you in court by now!

I would be concerned about it too tbh, but probably just chance it anyway, you have a valid paid for disc in your car, explain to them you'd taxed it when and where and they should be fine should you be pulled

I've been pulled for no tax as it didn't show on the system yet but he could quite clearly see the tax disc in the windscreen so sent me on my way.

Only way a tax disc can be revoked is if you pay with a dodgy cheque I believe

Or you tax your car which has a different tax band engine fitted to what it's registered as,

Unless that just shortens your term and you have to pay the extra to make it up

But if you had a afh with 1.6 internals you'd be fine as the engine numbers would still match a engine in the lower tax bracket...
