Alright chaps,

Long over due build thread (although most of the "build" is done.

I've owned this car for over 3 years now, and its kinda got a bit of a story to it. It currently holds a few personal records for one. #1 Longest I've actually kept a car #2 Shortest miles I've ever added to a car! (less then 300 miles in the last 3 years, ill explain why below) #3 Most break downs (once broke down in this 7 times on my way up to Bogg Bros in York). Having said that, it is still defiantly one of the best cars I've built in terms of fun. :)

Where do i start? Well, back in 2010 the car looked like this....

Standard, with a slighty tatty body (no major issue, just surface rust on some panels, and the odd ding)

Then came the engine conversion, a 1.4 16v Lump was dropped in and the fun began!

The first long trip on took it on was where all the fun began. This car has had problem, after problem, after problem.. But you know you reach a point where you either throw in the towel, cut your losses and get rid, or you keep pushing, keep putting money in, and see it threw! Well, i went for option B! :)

The first time i took the car out, i filled the take up only to find the tank had a massive leak, so that was replaced!

Sealed it before i fitted it to protect it.

Then, after a new tank was fitted, and i filled up again, i kept getting blocked fuel filters. Which lead to me breaking down (7 times in one trip once as i would keep taking the filter off and blowing it out!) It turned out the new tank had a lot of little bit of filling inside from where it was made and these had worked there way up to the filter and had caused a blockage. Found, fixed, move on.

I then got it to Bogg Bros, where i had the Carbs cleaned and set up properly. Then ran it on the RR where she ran a 119BHP. :) Not to shabby!

Once i had it running properly (or so i thought) the next thing on the list was to tackle the body work, now this was a few years ago so forgive me if i forget anything. But the main things done that i remember where:

Removed side trims

Removed rear boot spoiler

De-locked rear tailgate (popper solenoid on rear wiper switch)

De-wipered the rear.

Smoothed the side repeaters when fitting new wings. I found some decent second hand wings and had them sand blasted back to metal.

Then the majority of the car got fresh paint, Both front wings, the front valace, the rear passenger side quater panel and the tail gate.

Finished and tucked up before VW ACTION 2011 :)

All this body work was a 2 week job, i did as much as i could in the time i had as i wanted to get it ready for VW Action that year. I got it all back together on the Thursday before action, rang my insurer, got it taxed and got it back on the road.

The friday morning of VW Action (2011) came and i got up, waxed her up and set off... Half way there... The gear box went... I was mortified after all the time and money id put in! I work abroad a lot and was going away after Action so this was really my only chance that summer to use the car and show it off.

The car was then put away until Summer 2012, and i drove my Caddy as a daily through the winter.

SUMMER 2012 came round and i pulled her out of storage and started sorting her out. A new 8P gearbox was found, and i had it reconditioned and bolted in.

I also got some other little jobs done while i was waiting. Things like All Red rears and got some drilled disc brakes and better pads to help her stop.

I'm gonna skip a bit out here, but basically i got a few jobs done and run her round locally to make sure she was ok and all seemed well.

VW ACTION 2012 loomed and so i cracked on with a few other jobs ready to take it to finally make its Action Debut!

I made a "secret Sterio" i left all the original one, a tape deck, in for show (which is still wired and works) but i made a separate loom and ran a better head unit in the glove box. This ran a small pair of speaker in the rear seat in a suit case speaker box i made (as I'm not a fan f cutting about the original and very tidy interior.

I also had a stainless exhaust made up. Basically, i bought a stainless manifold from ebay and then some stainless pipe. And went strait through from front to back with only a motor bike box up the back.. :)

Well, it was the morning of VW Action 2012 and i was ready to go. Set off in Convoy with a group of my mates, got a far as sleaford and my first real chance to get her on a dual carrige way and open her up. And so i did... AAAAAAAND she cut out... Dead.... didnt know why... gone..

Long story short (again, she went home on an AA truck and i got a lift to ACtion AGAIN with my mates and ended up getting pissed and buying the first car i saw to get me home, as i felt sorry for myself, which was this...

Didn't really need it (i already have another corrado) but was drunk and silly and major pissed off with the breadvan Which i promised my friends i would be smashing up when i got home.

I got back and put it BACK into the storage shed again and left it...

Summer 2013 comes round!! I pull her out and decide to get to the bottom of it, after a lot of head scratching, testing and what not.. we get it down to the fact that i had used the wrong kind of piping to make my intake manifold, and after it was getting hot it was flexing to much. So once i opened her up on the motorway the pieps were compressing and she was choking.

So i put in a call to Bogg Bros, who made me up a nice shiney SOLID METAL manifold and i bolted it in :)

And so upto now, thats it. She seems to be running well and i am determined to take her to Action this year. As its not a daily, or not even my only project, the main problem has been how long i have been leaving it between stages. So i have promised myself that i am going to get it on the road BEFORE Action this year so that i can drive it about a bit and iron out the creases! Looking through my pics there are lots of little stages i have missed out here to, like suspention etc. But ill write a spec below. with some pics from various dates.

I've had enough of typing for now. More soon, and I'm gonna take her out for some decent photos son too... But thats it.

Car: VW POLO MK2 BREADVAN 70k on the clock. Rolling roaded at 119BHP, this was before the new exhaust and intake manifold!

Engine: 1.4 16v from a 6N with CBR600 bike carbs, stainless inlet manifold and full stainless exhaust.

Inside: Full original trim, MK3 door cards. Snap off steering wheel boss. 2 stereos with custom speaker mounted in suitcase and amp and sub in boot

Chassis: Lowered on Phil J Kit (needs to go more IMO). W11 Calipers with drilled discs. BBS RA's with Semi slick Yokohama tyres. Front top stut brace. ARB Roll Bar blocks.

Outside: 75% of car reprayed. Smooth tail gate, smooth wings etc.

Reduced lettering number plates

Side lights in indicator in bumper

Aero wiper blades

Brand new bumpers front and back.

And finally this is how the engine bay looks today.. Needs a lot of cleaning and polishing to get it all back. But this is all the bits on. And running (still finishing the new choke cable) :)

I'm not sure about getting to the Polo show though. I planned on taxing it etc for August to run it around a bit before ACTION.

But i suppose i could do it month early! Means i have to take my GTI off the road a bit earlier

What are those tyres like? Are they pricey?

They were not cheap!

And as far as what they are like, I've done 17 miles on them so far... lol
