Trying to remove a set of shocks from a 6n2 and the last bolt is constantly spinning

Any ideas guys

Sounds like a stripped thread. Is it a captive nut on the other side?

its hard to really tell as so close to the arch, I've tried a socket on the other side and mole grips still no luck

Grind the head of then take the strut out there will be enough thread sticking out to get it off!

Its into a captive nut in the strut top mount #4

Drill it out, you will probably catch the body work with a grinder.

Had this when i changed mine over. The captive nut in the rubber mount was spinning in the rubber. Had to carefully grind the head off the bolt.

Unfortunately for me it was on the new mount that I was re-fitting that it happened to:( but looks like thats your old one so no worries about grinding out.

I'm fitting all new suspension so dont mind about the mount.

what would you advise i get to drill it out

Mine was on the Drivers side so i had a bit more room to play with + had a grinder but no drill at the time :p

To drill it out you want to start with a small bit (1 or 2mm) then gradually get larger until you get to 13mm

You'll need to find some more bolts though cause my new mounts didn't come with bolts!

got the bolts from another gti I've got that I'm breaking just dont have a powerful enough drill :(

Can't you get a junior hack saw in the to chop the head of? I say attack it with anything you have handy lol

thats a good call, will pop into local diy shop and pick one up tomorrow, and let you know :) just dont want to damage around it

You'd only need to drill it around 7.5-8mm if you get it central to the bolt head. Maybe even less, the smallest part of the thread will be around 6.8mm so really you shouldn't need to go much larger to remove the head to allow it to be removed from the car.

I'd drop the other two bolts back in to hold in place when doing so.

Also you could mask around the area to try protect paint if you're using a saw and be careful
