Tyre Monkeys

Featured Replies

Collecting my car (6N) from a certain tyre supply and fitting company in Coventry after having 4 new ones and an alignment, I sit inside to find that the dash clocks are all fucked up! Blotchy writing and none of the dials move when the key is in! It still ran ok though.. Then after a few minutes of "tinkering", a slam from the drivers door corrects the problem..

Now I'm suspicious and left wondering, what could they have done dodgily to make this happen, and why? Can't be coincidence.. surely? I've been playing round with the car numerous times before and after they touched it. I've had the gearbox out before and after, and around christmas time i had the whole dash out and put back together. not once did this problem appear. then, the first time i sit in it after they have it for the morning this happens.

I'm worried they might have disconnected the clocks to take it for a drive somewhere? I didn't record the mileage unfortunately, but if that's what they did then that wouldn't make a difference.. although saying that, the car won't run without the clocks will it?

Has anyone had anything similar happen to their car after leaving it at a tyre/exhaust place? Maybe I'm just being paranoid?

You left your car in Coventry and it wasn't stolen or set on fire?

Clocks not working is getting off lightly :)

Don't know if you remember seeing my 6N mate, but it certainly isn't worth stealing! Yeah surprised it hasn't been set on fire though.. haha

My brief experience working in the fast fit trade was with Mr Tyre..... the stories I could tell!

I live by the rule of never let anyone work on your car unless you're watching their every move.

So you were being a pikey then?

Please share a few! Do any of them sound similar to mine? I did feel a little silly leaving the car there, after hearing rumours about such places.. But I thought "benefit of the doubt", "innocent til proven guilty", and all that, then I came back to fudged up clocks.. I should have walked away when they tried upping the price on me the day after I walked in for a price quote! Won't be going there again, that's for sure. You can't put a price on integrity or reputation.

Car will run fine with put clocks, and tbh I would just put it down to coincidence, the req effort to remove the clocks would far out weigh going on any drive.

Unless some rough bastard has had the steering wheel off to pikeyly centre the steering and fucked the clocks in the process. You would have to be a weapon to manage that tho.

Ahh Gulson road <3 Happy memories!

Sounds a coincidence to me too. Doubt theyd go to all that effort to go for a blast. If it cured by slamming the door then a loose wire would be my first idea.
