As it only works with pin 2 & 1 linked, that is the slow speed setting on the correct two speed fan, so it should still work when the water temp gets to 92c

Either the switch or the water is'nt getting to 92c actual temp. That's why I suggested testing it with boiling water

If it's anything like the all alloy engine (AUD) in my Ibiza, it just seems to run cool, the only time I've seen my fans kick in was when I left it running stationary for 30+ mins with the A/C on full

well after having another snoop around i decided i was going to try hot wiring from fan switch connections straight to the fan but i took a pic of the terminals from behind the fan and found that one pin is missing or the fan has been replaced by a previos owner and got the wrong type of fan ? I'm unsure if I've lost fast or slow speed?

I'd be careful mate as you can get both 2 and 3 pin versions, and the colour of the plastic casing around the pins depicts the temperature range in which it activate and deactivates the fan.

Dont think its the sort of thing would get picked up on an MOT. if you're doing a lot of continuous driving the fan won't need to run as you drawing a lot of air in through the grill. The only time your fan will kick in is when you are stood still and or doing town traffic driving. Just keep your eye on it bud. If you do notice it to start over heat an old trick is to whack your fan heater on full this can can help cool your engine slightly if the rad fan isnt working.
