My First VW (MK2 CL Breadvan 5 Speed White)

Featured Replies

Hiya guys, I'm Chris and I'm from Malvern in Worcestershire. I didn'y know if this was the right place to introduce myself or not but this will most probably be my build thread. Anywhoo, I've been driving for around 4 years now, used to drive a Vauxhall Astra MK3 as my first car for 3 years, Thoroughly enjoyed that car untill the rust hit it.

Gradually realising how unenjoyable they can be and the budget build quality I've since moved onto VW.

Bought myself a Breadvan back in February for the grand sum of 155 pounds. Good shell, minimal rust, just looking for a little tlc really. I ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT. Apart from the fact I was used to having better breaks I felt like I was going to kill myself the first time I drove the thing... At the moment i'm just getting all the body work sorted. dents removed, painted, buffed polished and lowered. Nice and subtle.

The reason why it was so cheap is that the guy I bought it off thought there was a gearbox problem. Too bad it was on the CV Joint that had gone. 8-) So, 20 quid later and a bad back from getting the ARB off and on to get to the drive shaft it was all up and running again.

Other plans for it are to put on a Weber Carb, Better Cam. I also have a Renault 5 Turbo Manifold and Turbo kicking around that i might modify. So i could be thinking of turbo'ing the little thing. Enjoy the pictures, more progress to come in due course. :)

I tested the little beauty all the way from the Midlands down to the bottom of Cornwall and back with no problems at all. Needless to say, I believe i got myself a bargain.

The last picture is a chop. How much i want to lower the car by around 60/50 so thats what I thought it would sit like. All I'm doing now really is waiting on pressed plates, thinner tires for a little bit of stretch (and for the 14"s to fit under the rear) and the springs and shocks.
