Well, here it goes again, some of you may remember my old openair. How I like to remember it..

Things were starting to become boring, with being completely skint/jobless :( progress was painfully slow, was hard enough just to run it, let alone fix it, then new additions to mod it. But I got an offer I couldn't refuse! Another 6n polo but a 1.4 16v, time for a power upgrade from the 1L with a massive 33bhp! So for the small fee of £175, valver was bought! Came looking a sorry state (I've lost all photos thanks to a phone fuck up) no bumpers, no rear lights, no seats, shitty paint, few dents, rust holes on arches, list goes on. But engine was sound, cold start problem sorted with a throttle cable adjustment and body clean out.

This is where things got annoying, mother, you know what they are like, kicked off about the engine swap, so in simple terms needed to declare it, couldn't get insured on the openair with engine swap However looking around the valver was only 1200, in comparison to the 1400 I was currently paying for the 1L is cheap! So the project began!

So many things were needed, I'll try write this as short as possible, I already had spare 16v bumpers from the openair (in primer) bought half leather ibiza interior, bought coilies, bought wheels. But before all of that, the body work and mot were priority. So set to work, making sure all mechanic things were sound, fixed rust holes and dents, but decided to make it slightly more individual, smoothed off a few things, water channels under the rear lights and doors, jacking triangles, side repeaters.

Went in for mot looking pretty shocking, blue car, silver bonnet, green boot, loads of primer patches! Even the mot'er made a few jokes. Anyway passed with ease, just few small silly advisories.

So where next, paint! This is where I may get some hate, as mentioned, I have very little money and a full respray was never an option, so what else, took a little inspiration from randells polo and few older dubs and decided to roller it! Me and a friend set to masking (did a shit job not going to lie, was so excited to start) Mum donated a few tins on Dulux, quality aye! and we began, at first it was a what the fuck are we doing to my car, but started looking better with every coat and I have no idea why but somthing really enjoyable about rollering a car haha.

So basicly, all the work was done on this car myself and with help so really good friends, Built not bought! Couldn't be happier, car isn't perfect, it's no show car, it's not silly low, it even has the helper springs still in! But fuck me that makes it comfty and I can drive pretty much where-ever I like, which makes a change from the last 6 months. But in time and with smaller rear tyres (bumper mount is utterly destroyed and still scrubs!) it will probably go lower but I love this car already.

Oh I forgot to mention, cars turn round after mot&body prep (which was around a week) We did it in a weekend, Coilies, wheel fitment, paint, interior. All in a weekend, was well worth the effot! And with everything included (mot, tax, trailering home etc) car owes me around £900. The openair was also raised 2 inches on coilies and sold to a sorta friend, so it still lives on but doesn't look like my car anymore, which is good in a good way.

Awesome bud, but I must admit I preferred the open air man love perfect on the star mags, an engine conversion would have been a complete win

I like this a lot. It sounds like you got much enjoyment out of doing this and full credit to you for doing it. My friend rollered his old mk2 from matte red to a tealy bluey colour a couple of days prior to UD. Your right, paint isn't "show standard" but if you can live with that then fair play to you. Do like your open air, but I can see that this is gonna be far more enjoyable for you and I can't wait to see more updates :)

Thanks man, they do have their very different styles. Still would of had to take the mags off to do proper conversion, 13's don't fit over the 256 brakes.

Cheers dude, it has been a real laugh. Yeah it's really not, but that doesn't bother me and if it gets too dirty or bored of it, just get the tape, paint and rollers out again after all. I only really miss the roof, the paint & body work on that was pretty shocking too! Progress will probably be slow with this aswel, but hopefully exhaust, smaller tyres, tiny bit more lows maybe even a colour change all in time!

Cheers man! It has come a long way, pictures do make paint look slightly better but hey ho. Massssssive difference, 33bhp to 100, soo much fun especially with an omex :p

So quite alot has happened in last few weeks. Simply the helper springs have said goodbye, so it's as low as can be before notch and coilover mods, oh and smaller tyres, but I like it at this hight. Anyway to me omp 280 steering wheel & 6n2/lupo gearstick help lift the inside, wired up my fan to a switch as it wasn't even switching in at all, flushed the 6n2 lights on better, oh and put a mk4 golf boot strut in my bonnet, so I can be lazy haha. But biggest update is smoother and fresh new colour! I'll let the pictures do talking...
