Hella Magic colour rear lights and dubmeister plates

Featured Replies

I was pulled over last night by some traffic cops and they advised me my rear lights are illegal and need to be changed as they have no reflectors in them, but they seemed puzzled by the fact the lights were "E" marked and i am also abit confused as they are right these rear lights don't have any reflectors in them which i never noticed before but how can they be E marked with no reflectors in them?

The hella lights in question: all e marked and apparently road legal

My second point they advised me even though my dubmeister plates have the manufacture address Bs stamp correct font and spacing and the car could read the plate with no issue's, but have "Raised" letters these are also illegal i can see there point about the rear lights but i had to send my log book off etc for these plates so they are legal

All i have learnt from this experience is that even if you have all the correct markings stamps etc a traffic officer can say what they want

Is there any sort of legal documentation i can show them to prove my plates are legal?

IIRC the hellas came with a sh1tty stick on reflector when new

sounds like someone got out of the wrong side of the bed!

Dubmeister & europl8 are the only two suppliers of legal UK pressed plates I believe.

I had europl8, got a card with them with a mobile number for police to contact if they were unsure saying all relative documentation for their legality can be forwarded on before prosecuting anyone for them being apparantaly illegal.

Contact Hella and dubmeister and see what they say.

Dubmeister's reply:

Hi,

The DVLA do not provide any documents that we can pass on. I have however attatched a copy of the DVLA number plate standards that lists all the requirements number plates have to meet. It may be worth printing off a copy as you can then show them that it does not state plates cannot be made from metal or pressed.

Thank you"

I have printed this off with the attached document and will be carrying it with me now in case any more issue's arise
