Featured Replies

i thought would be best to video this as it makes thing alot more simple. the battery strength is not the issue, although does make a difference slightly when fully charged. just something seems to be cutting out or a loose wire i dont know, any ideas? thanks in advance.

Looks alot to me like the battery is knackered, have you had it properly tested?

Yes and no, if you put a DC voltmeter across the terminals whilst the engine is off it should read 12.3-12.8V (roughly)

Putting the voltmeter over the terminals when the car's running will indicate if the alternator is working, you should have 13-14V in that case.

However it's not a definitive test and if you want it tested properly take it to a garage or battery shop and they will test it for free (with intentions of selling you a new one should it be faulty of course).

Charged the battery for a good 16 hours. It's indicating 12.6 volts. But still it is not starting right it's the sudden on and off which baffles me of the starter motor. What things can I check the wiring seems ok. Tried again but nothing, then I tried twisting dizzy and it fired for 20 seconds then cut out again. Baffled.

Another video again with plug removed to test for spark.

Trying again

the car is now running... kind of.... it ticks over every now and again and dies. but most of the time when i try start it the carb sprays out alot of fuel. dont know what to look for now. have seen on some forums its says timing but the marking on belt all line up. and I'm positive i have firing order right.

from looking at passenger side at dizzy it goes

-----1--------

----------2---

-------O------

----3---------

----------4---

correct? the vacuum(ufo) is facing inwards aswell if that makes difference. is there a good place to start with regarding dizzy rotation? ie fully clockwise, anti, or dead centre.

thanks marc

ps think i may have to call out a pro soon its doin me nut.

found the issue! it was my new rotor arm. it had snapped on the key locking bit so it was spinning freely. so replaced that and so far so good.

its always the smallest and most simplest of things. taught me to be alot more thorough on basic checks any way. :-D

Nice one
