Since I don't have time to play with my cars at the mo I have taken to a new hobby of converting old stereos in my spare time at work, so they can take an aux input such as ipod or any mp3 player via a 3.5mm stereo jack. I don't have any use for them once I have cleaned them up and modified them, so rather than put them in a display cabinet I am selling them on and spending the money on more old stereos to mess with!

first up is a blaupunkt milan 23

It has a 3.5mm aux input and switch, so you can switch between the radio or the aux in. The cassette deck is no longer functional (I bought it like that, otherwise I would have tried to retain its functionality.

It has two speaker outputs either 5 watt or 10 watts rms (I will have to look at the chip amps to confirm)

mw and lw tuner, couldn't pick much up on lw with a bit of wire attached, but got a few stations on mw, so it does work.

It has tone and balance control and that is about your lot!

It has been fully stripped and cleaned, so looks in very fine condition. there are some scratches consistant with age.

I will supply it with a pair of 2 pin din speaker connectors and tails for the power and neg earth wire

next a fairly rare blaupunkt hamburg, also with an aux input and source switch using the din socket on the rear.

Mono speaker output, but pretty loud. Certainly gave my retro pioneer speakers a good work out!

LW and MW tuner, again couldn't get much on lw but picked up some mw stations.

tone control, no balance as it is mono!

front panel can be swapped for different designs

Great cosmetic condition, back lighting works.

Again I will supply with wiring tails and a 2 pin din speaker connector as they are tricky to get hold of.

Finally a blaupunkt cambridge m23 again with 3.5mm aux in and source switch. Tape deck had failed so has been disconnected.

4 speaker outputs, from memory you can have 4x5 watt rms or run it in 2 chanel and have 2x10 watt rms

fm, mw and lw tuner in good working order

tone control

st/mono switch

backlighting works

really nice cosmetic condition

All of the units have been tested and play through the aux in well, with no distortion. I have modified various circuits so that the sound quality is good and the aux in is separate to the tuner I/p (a lot of other modded stereo simply play the aux in over the top of the tuner, which does work but isn't ideal for obvious reasons.)

MW and LW tuner which to be honest I couldn't pick much up other than static noise, but that might be down to my make-shift aerial.
3.5mm ack socket allows connection of mp3/smart phones/ipod etc, all of which tend to have tuners anyway
close to 10 watts rms output at 2 ohms, so will run a pair of speakers no problems!

an old pioneer model. Not sure on the power output as there is nothing written on the case and the amp chip is covered by its heatsink so I can't even google the chip model number. At a guess going on the volume it produced through my speakers which I use to test all my other radios it'll be around 5-10 watts rms per channel.
The tape deck doesn't function and I have used its input to connect the line in to. You will need an old tape, as this is how you switch the radio signal off. The tape motor has been disconnected so the tape won't run, so no noise to worry about.
The tuner work well and benefits from lw, mw and fm
The backlighting works fine and is a light blue, very modern for something so retro!
Cosmetic condition is pretty good, there is some wear to the tape hole slot cover, but is otherwise like new. The outer plastic can be removed if you have a car with the slot and two holes for the control knobs.

Old ford radio, not sure which what model the radio was intended for, but it would look fine in any ford from the 50s to early 80s. The outer trim can be removed if the car it is being fitted has the slot and two holes for the control knobs. The tuner isn't functional as it was causing noise on the line input. It could be reversed though, with about 5 minutes of soldering. The tuner worked prior to me disconnecting it. The is some cosmetic damage to the plastic, just to the left of the L button. The tone control has lost its little tab, but still adjusts ok.



I bought this along with a couple of others with the promise that I would sell it on cheap, so I am going to ask £20 posted for it, or £10 collected.

Another budget radio done. This time a philips unit, std fitment in some early rover austin model going on the info sticker attached to the radio.
12 watts rms output, so either 12 watts into 1 channel or 6 watts into two mono channels
Tuner works on mw, couldn't get much on lw.
Backlighting has been restored, so it glows a nice shade of green in the dark.
Has been cleaned to a high std, looks almost as good as new!
