My new to me car

Featured Replies

Hi guys yesterday I bought myself a 2 owner vw polo coupe 1.3 cl. The person selling it was selling it for his aunt who had to give up driving.

It has a few little dents and scratches but apart from that it's a very tidy little car.

The car has lots of paperwork going back and even has the deposit paid to secure the car and also the original bill of sale. It has a metal sunroof and also has proper oe rubber mats. It even comes with the original blaupunkt tape player.

I basically needed something to get me to work while I repair my other car. The choice was this or a rover 25. I really like the little rovers but I'm useless at selling cars and when my other car gets back on the road I would have to get rid pretty sharpish.

With this I'm going to keep it and when my other car is on the road put it on classic insurance. It's a 1991 1.3 cl.

I have plans for it but I'm not sure if I should leave it original (probably not).

I wanted a car with as little to wrong as possible. This car works out great it has

:-

No central locking

No electric windows/mirrors

No power steering.

It seems a fun little car to drive at the moment.

Anyway enough talking and here's some pictures

that looks pretty damn clean dude!

modding wise, its your car so you do what you want! you can pick up a set of 60/40 springs fairly cheap and a set of nice 13/14s work well!

whats this other car you speak of then?

NZ engine! paintwork looks tidy

Thanks buddy I never knew what the engine was. The paintwork is very good especially for a 22 year old car

Heres some of my Rover

Nice one!

I wouldn't mind myself an SD1 but chances of finding one that isn't rotten is 0!

  • Author

Thanks i like the SD1 aswell but they are staring to creep up in value and as you said lots are rotten but there are still nice ones out there thanks

seems like a decent coupe, chuck a gt inlet on it along with a gt cam ;)

Hi guys yesterday i came home and found a letter from clubpolo and it was the air freshener, tax disc holder and red sticker i ordered from them. I stuck the air freshener in last night but i will leave the stickers untill i get the other sticker for becoming a member.

Today i was at my mates house when another mate said that he would check out why my fuel gauge will only go to just above a quarter of a tank. I went to his workshop and checked the current and that seemed fine and he said to me "you know what they did when the previous owner had a new fuel tank put in? They put the float to the front so it would hit the side and not give a good reading".

We put it back together properly and heres what it looks like now(the photo was taken while the ignition was on so the lights were on)

Then i came home and found a box from a member on here and this is also what i recieved.

I also went to ther local part co and bought some oil and an oil filter.

I just need to buy:-

Thermostat

Distributer cap

Leads

Spark plugs

Rotor arm.

All the above was over £90 and I'm sure i could get it cheaper so i left it. Anyways what do you guys think? Thanks

Nice and tidy coupe. Good to see another classic red one, by far my favourite shade off red. Not as venerable to fading as Tornado.

I went out the other day and bought this as even though it looks good my original stereo just isnt good enough.

I like this one because even though it has usb ports etc it still looks a little old school and as i have decided to go the classic route i think it will suit it well.

I do need to ask a couple questions.

What size are the speakers in the front? Also does the mk2f have wiring into the back for speakers? and what size would fit in the grill thanks Thomas.

I had the same stereo as this in a Metro, would've been in '93-'94. It was chewing up a Dreamscape tape, mate tried to save it but it was snapped.

So i wound down the window, pulled it out the dash by the handle and lobbed it out the window.

I was on a bypass at the time, even though it landed on grass it virtually exploded on impact..

Looks like a clean one, great colour.

Ah-ha! :)

A lot of them have that blaupunkt radio I don't think I've ever had one that still worked properly though. And they light up orange too. :? The panasonic pull out I had in my first mk2 was much nicer. Lit up green, matched the coupe s clocks nicely :)

The Alan Partridge thing did make me chuckle. I love my vitesse and that's all I care about. Mine lights up green aswell but I can't wait till I get better speakers and my cell player put in

A bloke I used to do a bit for had one in his tractor. I tried to put a tape in it once and the door would hardly open, tried the eject button, nope, already pushed in, pulled the head unit out and shook about half a bucket full of grain dust out of it.

So after that, I took my walkman to work.

Okay time for a update.

I have had quite a busy day. I fitted the steering wheel from a higher model and then I fitted some metal pressed plates. I now have a Sony cd player from my friend. I fitted some clear indicator lenses and leather gaitor I also fitted later style rear lights and then sent my car to the local car wash and they washed it and hoovered it then cleaned the inside windows. I got it home then I polished it and I think it has come out well. Here's some photos I hope you like

I know this probably isnt the most exciting project thread but it keeps me out of trouble.

Anyway update. I went out tonight and bought something for my Polo again.

Only £20 and hopefully wont cost alot to fit.Its brand new also never fitted.

2013-08-07211240_zps848d8cec.jpg

This was inside the end pipe and fell out he said you can have it for free if you want. As it was free i wasnt going to turn it down but i have no idea what it is for. It looks like a mini air filter.

2013-08-07211303_zps9f6e2a74.jpg

Does anybody know what this is?

Thanks Thomas

Looks like a nice clean example :-) . The mystery part is an oil breather I think.
