My battery keeps on draining. It doesn't seem to be charging, I'm getting a readout of 11.6 volts (battery) when the cars running, it is a brand new battery (replaced the old one two days ago, because i thought i had a dud battery)

The alternator is kicking out 13.8 volts and 20 amps at idle.

The car runs fine once bumped or jump started.

I've put the battery on charge tonight will see if that makes a difference.

I've checked the connections between the altenator and battery.

Any ideas?

Sounds like something wrong with the connection from the alternator to the battery, wiring wise, or a faulty alternator.

I'd disconnect the battery and alternator leads and give them all a good clean, check for corrosion between the contact faces. Also check earth leads that go to the vehicle body, again look for corrosion between the contact surfaces.

If you have 13.8 volts at the alternator, you should be getting the same voltage at the battery terminals.

Failing this, if you have a multimeter put it on the ohms setting and test continuity between the alternator and battery positive terminal

And also alternator earth to negative terminal

Definitely sounds like open circuit

Was a loose cable from the altenator to the starter motor :) cheers guys
