Hi guys quick question what is the point in modifying and being honest about it when you seem to be getting stung.

I've got quotes for my car insurance and adrian flux has come back with £681.71 fully comp with 7 years ncb in a good area.

I then asked for a price back to standard and they came up with £382.99

I think its crazy someones insurance can go up so high just for the mods outlined

Exhaust

air filter

lowered springs

alloy wheels

I then contacted Tesco insurance and on a standard car it turns out they can do me fully comp for £234.87 for the year.

I have been a loyal customer to Adrian flux and have even got friends insured with them but i dont think i will be going with them again.

Id rather run a standard car than pay out over £440 just to run a modified car. My Vitesse wasnt much difference to the polo and the vitesse is about 4-5 times the power output of the polo. Grrr

I do yes but what i am getting at is I now have an extra years ncb.

My vitesse is more modified than the polo yet the prices arnt that different.

You would think a car with a 2.0 litre turbo engine producing 200bhp would be alot more than a 1.3 litre engine producing 54 bhp

By the way i havnt a problem paying extra but nearly 3 times is a bit of a kick in the balls.

I'm still looking for modified car insurance and so far have found a quote over £200 cheaper than Flux.

No time for loyalty in this country/climate anymore, there's far to many new customers for the company's to worry about the old ones.

Well the answer is to keep your old car and continue making it the best it can be in your eyes and pay less money for insurance. :)

I had no issue paying the extra as I knew in the event of a crash they would cover everything as it was all declared and down on paper rather than hiding some mods just to get the cheaper quote.

I got full book value for my car after the crash and got to keep the car for free so I could strip it. The company didnt even class it as a total write off and said if I wanted to repair it I could.

Thanks trust me i would never lie to get a cheaper quote. This thread was just started as i was (and still am) a little annoyed with adrian flux.

I've just got a great quote from SKY insurance which is £397.00 which is £300 cheaper than Adrian Flux.

Its all about shopping around, different companies will be able to give different quotes on different cars. Sky were cheapest for my sierra by a long shot but flux beat them by about £300 on the Renault

Shopping around is key, even if your car is standard. Greenlight were being uber competitive on prices when I re-insured the Polo at Easter.

my renewal with the same mods at 20 and 2 years ncb was going to be £800 so with you having 7 it should be alot less than £680... look around others companies

Thanks people yes i thought it should be cheaper.I've got it to £397.00 from sky at the moment so maybe somebody will beat that.

to me its about owning a car you can be proud of, and something you can always have fun and play around with and tinker with, I pay £2,500 a year (yes, really) with all mods declared on my polo, and i don't mind paying it, that said i paid £100 for some brows from japan on my yaris a couple of years ago.

TL;DR, i dont mind paying a fortune to own something i really appreciate.

I know whereyou are coming from. What I'm also trying to say is my other car cost me last year on a 200bhp carabout the same as Adrian flux wants this year with an extra years ncb on a 54 bhp car

Regardless of how much more you pay in insurance and the extra maintenance costs of modifying cars nobody does it for a profit, its the love and passion for it.

Personally I do it to make my car my own; I find that anyone can just buy a standard car and think its awesome but to me it lacks personality. Modifying your car makes it your own, regardless of the cost.

Sky refused to insure my car fully comp as it was too old so I took my money to a insurance company that would.

What I'm paying on the (now boosting) volvo is roughly the same as the polo. Which is more fun.....the polo.

Dont get me wrong I've only had the polo a couple of weeks and i love it to bits. So much so that originally i was only going to keep it a couple months untill i got my vitesse on the road.

I had a little rant at the lady at Adrian Flux(when i say rant I'm usless I'm all apologetic)

They have got it to a price i can live with modified. Its still double standard but i can live with that.

Hi guys well as said above Adrian Flux gave me a goodish quote Sky is still better slightly. I was just a little annoyed thats all and needed to vent my frustration. I've had my happy pill now so I'm better now

Why modify my car? Cause it looks awesome.

I pay a fortune for my insurance but its worth it to have a car that looks good.

Needs lowering though rob
