well all though i hat to admit it but after 3 years with a clean license i think i may have slipped up:(

this afternoon there was a speed van local to me in a 60mph area, although i wasnt speeding i may have been on the phone, i know this is just plain dangerous but we all make mistakes.

in short does any one know if these vans look out for this kind of thing?

The cameras are still auto capture so if you was not speeding then it would not have taken a photo however the police man could have made a note and maybe give you a warning. I doubt u will get done unless u was speeding then u get 2 fines. But still never use a phone. One if my pet hates is people that are on there phone I always shout abuse at them great in this weather when they have the window down. Usually a blast on the horn and watch them drop the phone

But i agree with matteboi6n, there's a van that sits outside our work on the A308 and it doesnt capture unless you're speeding

The main duty of any person in the van is for speed violation,if a further offence is seen they will/could pass this on to another department.

you could be lucky in that the van viewer didn't notice you was on the phone whilst driving or that the viewer was to busy to notice as he/she was eating a burger or wanking off at there supreme status.

or they could have seen you on the phone and reported you and youll get booked for it.if that does happen then atleast you already know you were a cock for doing it.

so dont loose sleep over it

ah well thats at least some good news, hopefully i will continue pointless.

either way its lesson learnt, time to get the boss to order a handsfree kit i think lol

if it was a work vehicle and a work phone then your company should really supply you with a handfree kit.

Especially as If the person phoning you is aware that you are driving when they make a call to you, they are equally responsible if you have an accident and could also incur a hefty fine!

yup work van and a work phone but tbh I've never asked for a handsfree so i suppose thats my fault but after this i certainly wont be answering the bloody thing again.

its one of those things that at the time seems harmless but after wards you realize what a risk it is

Someone at work did this and got sacked. At the end of the day the employer will always say it's your fault(because it is). I never answer the phone while driving as its not worth the risk. I do hope you don't get a letter buddy

I know at the end of the day its ultimately down to the driver but when I'm out in a work van my boss insists that we are contactable, therefore he gives us an allowance for a blutoof and has windscreen mounts fitted to all our vans. Most phones come with a wired handsfree anyway so could always use that if they wont buy you one?

Same with my work but I just don't answer. I don't like speaking to people on the phone anyway.

yup i agree what ever the results its my fault so i will just have to deal with it:(. the phone didnt come with a handsfree kit as it was passed on from another fitter but i do that the satnav they supplied me with works as a handsfree kit but wont accept my phone lol. ether way that phone isnt being answered unless i can get some form of kit or they accept that I'm going to have to pull over to take the calls

My aim is not to address the person using the phone though, they clearly don't care. No, it's to alert the person on the other end of the phone. They may turn a blind eye to it if they know they're on the phone to a driver, but when a horn swings by in the background and they hear all is not well.. then that can be enough to get the right audience to give the driver the thumbs down to some degree or other.
