Picked up a 1.0 6N 98 Reg, I'm driving touring bands around full time so don't really need a big car because I mainly drive the van / Work in a Pub / Venue.

Picked up the car yesterday. Seemed fine, Walked around it, looked banging, The night before the Prev owner replaced the OS drive-shaft. Possbily the NS. Not 100%

Stopped off at a services and the car had been running wicked for about 100 miles, Guy text me saying check your wheel nuts as he was half asleep when he put the wheel back on and to make sure they were okay.

Question 1. Why not tell me when purchasing the vehicle so I could tighten loose nuts. Question 2. Why not just tell me to come later on and so they could finish the parts.

I was coming down the A42 J13 / 14 Northbound. Heard some noise and didn't have a clue what it was, thought at first it was the timing belt and it had gone, Turns out my NS front wheel wasn't tight at all. Next thing doing 60. I heard a bang, Managed to not skid, got the car as far into the kerb as I could. Got out and looked at the car. 3 Of the bolts have snapped clean off and disappeared. One still in but looking worse for wear, also looking at the wheel it looks like I had massive camber.

Managed to get a nut in and tow it 200m into the closest lay by, Got taken home, Today fixing the issue. found out that not only was the wheel nuts loose, But the hub, track rod, Driveshaft were all no more than finger tight all round. Kinda shook me up a little knowing that they were that loose,

Had to replace the Hub with a salvaged one from the scrapyard, Halfrauds got the hub screw off as it was ridiculous (all for free!) Checking the brakes too, Literally no pad left on either pad on the NS. Replaced the disk and pads on one side, finishing the other tomorrow,

This guy claims to be a dub fanatic, his collection was really nice. But it's really made me question people who have a lot of dubs, does he actually care about them? Does he realise his poor repairs nearly wrote my car off?

Theres a photo below, My plan is looking at rebuilding basically as I don't have much trust in the guy who sold me the car. Stripp back all paint, And de-rust.

Saying he was tired when he done it could be half the reason although to leave all of that loose is pretty bad even for someone half concentrating (unless he walking away to do something else then come back thinking he had tightened it all up)

I would get every inch of it checked over to make sure he's not been soon anything else and forgot things that may cause you issues.

I told him everything, He said that he told me about the Wheels. It was just as I set off from the services before the breakdown.

I'm going to get someone to look over it on ramps, get a full diagnostics of things, I'm literall tempted to get a donor car and replace most parts now. Too much worry on my mind now.

To be honest mate. You would notice if the wheel was loose as it would make a horrible noise and the car will try to go all over the place. The track rod being looses would also cause a loud knocking noise all the time. Also you was lucky as is the driveshaft bolts was loose this means that the bearing is not connected so the hub with the wheels, disc and all that stuff could just fall off. However if someone text you and says oooo you wheels may be loose better check em. You do this straight away no matter what road your on. I would stop on the side of the m1 for that.

It sounded fine until the noise kicked in, Before I even had chance to pull over the wheel came off. there was no knocking noises until it broke down.

Had a further inspection into the car (more detailed then when I picked it up, Looks like I'm going to be doing a full rebuild, It's already needing.

Both Sides Sils, Front wings, Splitter, Exhaust going to standard (New one is a Beancan and sounds ridiculous.

I wouldn't put all the blame on the seller for this mistake.

If the seller said to me he had just replaced something, I'd be straight under the car to check everything had been put back right etc.

Plus as a general check on a car I always grab the wheels and give them a shake about to check for anything loose, be it track rod ends, or bearings etc.

In saying all that though I would never sell a car that has just been repaired 5 minutes previous without so much as a test drive to see everything is fine.
