The Start Of My Bready Project

Featured Replies

Right so... Got myself a little 1.3 breadvan about 3 months ago, only just started work on her so I shall update as i go.

First of all here's how she arrived:

Once I had her running sweet (new battery, alternator, fuel tank, exhaust and a whole heap of elbow grease) I quickly got rid of the oversized bump strips:

Then after about 8 doses of bumper blackener:

And clear front & side indicators:

That's about it so far, just got my hands on some 13" tarantula alloys, which I'm currently refurb'ing, then probably chuck on a 40mm lowering kit and a fresh lick of paint... Other than that, who knows, just gonna try to keep her looking as clean as possible i reckon.

Freed up some room in my engine bay today by swapping out the air box for a tidy little k&n, think i may need to adjust the mixture now though. Also spotted what appears to be a slight fuel leak whilst i was in there :( sure it wasn't there before but its only minor so i shall try to get to the bottom of it.

Also sanded off most of the paint on the alloys, just need to get into the little nooks, then start shining them up :)

Here's how they look atm

They're certainly getting there, I have them as stripped as they're going to get now, just got to decide whether to paint them or wet and dry and zinc primer... Decisions decisions!!

what did you actually use on the bumpers, mine need it badly?

Turtle wax's bumper gel, 2 or 3 coats in the end

Quick update, got the tarantulas painted and fitted with some nankang 185/60s, also lowered 40/55

got some new springs to bring the front a bit lower, still considering taking it to 60mm all round

Also thinking of buying, refurbing and fitting these, haven't seen them before so might be worth a go. I've always sort of fancied the idea of 3 spokes on a bready.

Thats about it at the moment really, fitted a straight through exhaust from mid box to tail pipe with a 2.25" upturned finish.. But as a lovely rozzer decided to pull me on the way to work one morning to tell me it was 'illegal', I've refitted the factory pea shooter for now. I'll try find a photo of it with the old pipe on.

Also fitted new ht leads, dizzy & coil. Next step: bike carb set up. (as long as i can buy the bits before the missus finds out!)

That's really low on the back, just doesn't look right.

Yeah it is a tad uneven, not as bad as it looks in the side view picture though, i had a 2k PA system in the back when that was taken! Needless to say there was a little scrubbage. Planning to take the rear up a notch this weekend to see if it levels out.
