Roof Bars 6n/6n2

Featured Replies

There just seems to such a lack of information and images on roof bars for the 6n and 6n2! So I thought I’d put together this collection of images together, the parts needed, what they look like and how to install them.

If anyone’s got anything to add please do so

I hope you find it useful

Firstly I’m using Thule roof bars on my Polo 6n (1.4 8v). These bars fit most polo’s from 1995 to 2001 with fixpoint mounting.

So what Thule equipment is compatible?

Fixing kit – Thule 3007

Kit is for

  • VW Polo, 3-dr hatchback 95-01
  • VW Polo, 5-dr hatchback 95-01
  • VW Caddy, 3-dr Van 96-03
  • VW Caddy, 3-dr Estate 96-03
  • Seat Inca, 3-dr Van 96-03
  • Seat Inca, 3-dr Estate 96-03

Feet – Thule 753

So here’s the feet with the fitting kit, you obviously get 4 of each, but this is just to show you how they go together. Everything is tightened buy an alan key, but I used a wrench to get them tighter easier.

Here’s the bars with feet and fitting kit attached

You’ll find the fix point mounting under the rubber seal or they’ll be a little flap that pops open. The fitting kit acts like a pincer type clamp holding the roof bars to the car

After a bit of fiddling to get the bars seated correctly, they on!

You can see here that the feet don’t sit flush with the roof. With Thule there isn’t a flush kit so this is the final result. Got to say though they are really sturdy! And I mean sturdy. If I move the bars the car moves with them!

Got to say I’m very pleased with the results though

Hope this has been of help to people!

I got these ones off of eBay. I got the bars and feet for £80 (secondhand) and the fitting kit for £30 (new) but it'll be about £150ish for everything new. It'll be cheaper if you get the square bars but they don't look half as good.

They took about 30min to fit, but that's putting everything together and then fitting it to the car. Its only about 10min to take them off.

If your going to fit them get someone to give you a hand as it can be a bit fiddly!
