I am looking for a Mk2 Polo Classic, registration KKX 136Y. Fondly know to myself the years I had as Katie :-) Does anyone know her whereabouts? I spent many good years behind her wheel and would like to know if she is still about.

Sweet! Glad to hear it! What extent is the restoration? I practically re build the car in the 6 years I had it! Good news to hear it is still on the road though :-)

Off the top of my head, sills, a pretty big rust patch around the filler, and a bit on the floor, I could be wrong though.

The filler sounds about right! I had it done twice when had it,even considered getting an aero aftermarket cap fitted, but decided against it as it didn't match the overall look of her. I was the third owner and had it from 2000 to 2006. It was totally standard when I got it but made a few improvements over the years. I begrudgingly sold her when I moved to Scotland and have pretty much regretted it ever since. My wife saw it in Edinburgh once when Tom (Welsh?) Had it. Brought back some brilliant memories :-)

I've long since ended my business with place it got its 3/4 respray! Having said that though, you'll find the vast majority of filler on the hip lines. When i first bought it had speed strips either side (dealer fitted to bump the forecourt price up no doubt) when I removed these the hip lines were as straight as a dogs hind leg! It took the body shop a while to get them perfect again (the guy is a perfectionist) Where else is she covered up?

Do you know how much Karl is wanting for it when he sells her?

Hello, and apologies for the slow reply!

I've been pretty busy with things and have just over the last month gathered enough time to throw myself into this project.

Katie hasn't faired so well. During Toms ownership she acquired a fuel leak and was laid up on his father's driveway whilst Tom was at uni/working away. This meant she sat on the driveway, rotting .

The filler flap area that you had had repaired had completely rotted out this time, as the metal that lay behind the fibreglass and filler of Coates' garage repair become sodden and crumbled away.

The fuel leak came from both the fuel pump on the engine and the fuel filler neck on the tank, which appeared to have been wrapped in fibreglass to bridge a hole. This had allowed the filler neck to rot away some more.

The wheel arches on the rear and the rear of both sills had started to give way, and in the case of the driver's sill, crumble completely. The front arch lips were grotty too, this transpired to be where they had been rolled and some, what looked like roof flashing tape used to seal where the arch lip had been folded onto the outer skin of the wing.

The drivers door was rotten along the lower edge, I assume from bad preperation before painting, as that door was in fact a late spec Mark3 Polo door that incorporated a side impact bar!

She had sustained a knock on the N/S C-pillar as well, and elsewhere the paint was flat, rust was bubbling under filler and the bonnet skin was so badly distorted where it looked like someone had stood or jumped on it! The driver's jacking point was another bad area, as it had compressed against the driver's footwell, bending the floor upwards and causing it to rot.

She was in a very bad way, and ordinarily, I might have thought beyond saving, but I could tell she had been loved and I needed to pay for my sins of breaking up old Polos, so ensued a restoration.

The list of what's to be replaced is as follows:

Driver's sill

Driver's door

Driver's front wing

Passenger front wing

Passenger door

Bonnet

Both rear wheel arches

Driver's jacking point

Driver's filler flap and surround

I may have to put a passenger sill on it yet.

I've also made a start sourcing a fitting other replacement parts, such as a dashboard, bonnet trim, radiator grille, sunroof, front bumper, front indicators, exhaust and fan cowl.

Price-wise I would be wanting around £1700ono (with an MOT), which I don't feel is unreasonable giving the amount of work I'm going to be putting into this!
