I bought a skoda pickup 1.9D a couple of days back and have started to take it apart. As my username should clarify my interests of what I want to do with the car, I thought I'd might try this forum out.

For the moment I am in a bit of a dilemma, can't decide what engine I should throw in it.. I want to use the 1.9tdi from an audi B4, can this be done? if it is, how much work will it be and what will have to be changed/upgraded? If not, what engine is usable? I want something that kicks off a bit.. Also, do not go easy on me with the details of the 'negatives' on these cars, and what I should look out for.

Tell me whatever you know about these cars: positives, negatives, and what I should do with it to keep it running.

I have searched the web for 2 days now, so this was my last option.. hope some of you have some answers for me.

Any response would be greately appreciated!

you need to sign up to caddy forum, loads of info on there! The tdi engines wont fit as far as I'm aware. you can however turbo the 1.9d using kit from the old mk2 golf gtd 1.6 td from what I remember.

Great cars the felly pick-ups, i had one and was sad to see it go. rust is the only thing to worry about with them. they are otherwise bomb-proof!

All the small block polo engines will go in the felly, so there are pleanty of engines to choose from! most go for either the 1.4 16v or the 1.6 aee engine. you need to retain your gearbox (which is a known weak-point when running 100bhp or more.)

One more question for you though, is the mk2 the only turbo I could use? I mean, they are pretty rare in this country, and wouldn't be as cheap as I was hoping this to be.. And I want the engine to be diesel, so the polo engines is something I'd rather throw away.. and they are pretty small, which would mean alot of work to get it working up to my expectations.. So in other words, you're saying I can't use the mk3's turbo?

by the way, what forum are we talking? could you please send me a link to a good one?

basically anything fom the 1.9 td onwards is a no go from what I read back when I owned a pick-up. i seem toremember the manifold won't clear something in the engine bay on the felly. all the high power felly pick-ups that i know of, run petrol polo engines, be it the 100 bhp 1400 16v, 125 bhp polo gti engine, tuned 1600 8v which are capable of 100 bhp plus. As far as derv options go, using the mk2 golf stuff is the only option I know of. the 1600 petrol felly pick-up uses a polo engine as std. the 1300 pick-up is the only true skoda engine available in them.

if you were to go petrol, you' probably be best off selling the d an getting a 1.6 petrol one to begin with.

if you were to go custom with the manifold design etc, then you could probably use the 1.9 pd engines. I dont know of anyone who has done it, qwhich makes me think it is more hassle than it is worth?
