Honda powered polo

Featured Replies

Hey everyone :) new to this forum!

Baisically I've not got much money. I've been offered a 1.4 D14A1 engine from the ec9 civic for nothing and want to know if it will fit in the bay of my 94 mk2f polo? I know someone who can do all the welding for the mounts and I've been told about a company that does custom driveshafts of anyone knows what the company's called it would be awesome! And another question does the ecu on the polo control just the fuel injection or does it control loads of other stuff too?

Thanks!

If you don't have a lot of money custom shafts will be out of your price range. The ecu on the polo doesn't matter as you will need to get a engine loom and ecu for the civic motor. Custom mounts will need make not just welding.

All in all it will be easier to spend £200 on an fan motor and stick that in running carbs

Yeah if money is tight then a conversion like this will be well out of the question. The money you would spend on custom shafts alone would easily buy you a gt conversion

I've been told custom shafts are only about 2-400 quid? I'm not in a massive rush to get them so I don't mind saving haha! The civic wont need an ecu cus it runs on carbs. And I run a fairly big car club in north Wales so I know a fair bit of People that could help out and also a guy that does welding and fabricating so that won't cost too much

Found someone to do the fabricating and welding for nothing so driveshafts! Where does custom driveshafts?

Just cut and join the civic drive shafts to the polo shafts simple you know people who can fabricate sorted free

Il do you custom shafts for £200

If that's the only cost you think you'll incur then go for it

But I very much doubt it as all the little things soon add up

Exactly

drive shafts are just one piece of the puzzle. You say its gonna be running on carbs so your gonna have to buy all the stuff for the carb setup. Even if you get the mounts and shit made for nowt you will still need to pay for materials

once its done you could of just fitted a engine that would of bolted straight in and still cost the same, maybe less. A AFH (1.4 16v) engine can be picked up for like £100, you can use most of the stuff off your car (gearbox, alt, starter motor, ect) slap some bike carbs on and its done, easy weekends work. You seem to be seeing this as a cheap conversion because the engine is free, but the engine itself isn't generally the expensive part of a engine conversion

Will these people really do all the work for you for nothing? I get people expecting me to do engine swaps and shit for them because they are mates, fact of the matter is its my time I'm wasting and I'm saving them a shed load of cash so I make sure I'm getting paid for it. You wouldn't believe the amount of people that just expect me to do shit for them for nowt just because they know me

It's doable, just have a sit down and estimate what needs doing and what the cost are then when's it's all added up add another 25% on at least because as above there are sooo many little things that you will need that will cost you. It's a different story if you had a donor car, but even then it still doesn't have all the bits you need.

For all the hassle I would go 1600, so d16a9 etc, or even better VTEC so b16/18/20 as they are almost the same size on the mounts. Again, as above you should budget for custom mounts , you may be lucky and they willl line up nicely and only need brackets made. But it isn't very likely. Other wise there would be a lot more folks with jap power.

A few thing to ponder over.

Running gear, selectors etc.

Cooling

Fueling

Exhaust

Brakes 120+ ponies through 20+ years of worn brakes isn't going to end well.

Wiring

To mention a few

Stupid stuff like buying appropriate fixings, bits of coolant hose etc all add up too.

Well fellas thanks for the help :) most of them said they'd do it for nothing but I've been browsing the net and I've decided to go with the afh on bike carbs! Doubt it's gonna be cheap! I need an engine to start off with and their going for about £350 ATM off eBay :( then I need a g40 box I think? That's gonna be like finding a needle in a haystack haha! If anyone knows where to get these bits It would be very much appreciated! I'm not in a big rush tho as my cars going for paint this week

£350 is a rip off, and you don't really need any ancillaries, I'd pay like £150 tops really.

Don't need a g40 box at all either

Would you like a homosexual car? Because thats what will happen if you let anything Honda near it...

^^^^play nice

And I run a fairly big car club in north Wales

Which one is that then?

Lol, homosexual car .... :-p

Haha well glad I'm not going the Honda route anymore! I thought a g40 box was better because the 6n boxes were shit?

6n boxes are shit, but there are plenty of other boxes from mk2/mk2f's that will bolt straight on and while still not being amazing are slightly stronger than the 6n box

True enough haha! I've seen them stick the engines in and convert them to carb, what about keeping it multi point tho? Are there any guides on here?
