Hi Guys Just got my no our first ever VW its a 2004 polo 1.4 TDi dressed in Black collect it on Saturday my wife wanted a VW TDI for economy reasons but I would like to know how you define your car like I said its a 2004 1.4 TDi so is it a 6n or what can I find these details from the chassis number.

Also on the os underside there is alloy panel can any one tell me what this is and what it does.

My resent car history :- Mk1 Mk2.5 & Mk3.5 Mazda Mx5 convertibles present car is a Honda civic 1.4 ivtec and of course hers is a or will be the Polo

What sort of problems should I be looking out for any checks i should be doing.

The car has full service history and has all mot documents since 2007 and has only done 27000 miles, cam belt has been changed along with water pump.

Is there a section here for recommended lubricants i.e Castrol, Mobil, Shell oils etc

Hi bud welcome, yours is a 9N or 9N1 as its in the second year of the new mk5 (some may argue mk4) shape.

The alloy panel underneath is probably some type of heatshield, i dont think its a belly pan for aerodynamics (fuel economy) as the bluemotion didnt come out until about 07'

If yours is the PD engine (which I think it will be) then you need PD engine oil, will deterate quicker if you put other oil in. I buy mine from Vw themselves for £35-40 which is about the price halfruads/GSF all that charge anyways and it's the right oil

Oil wise your engine is the pumpe deuce or PD, you must run a PD on fully synthetic or you will eventually kill it !

When i worked at a main dealer local to me they used Mobil, but i dont if anyone else has any comments for what to use !!!

Thanks for your replies, has any one used Opie oil I picked them up from my days on MX5oc forum I did use them for transmission oils found them very good.
