57 Polo electrical problems

Featured Replies

Dear CLub Polo,

I am a newbie and hope you can help me. We have a 57 Polo 1.4. We have electrical problems. It began with ABS and Power sterring lights coming on with a loud beep. Then the power steering stopped whilst driving. Stopping and re-starting solved this but one day it would not re-start at all. Dead. 100% dead. No bettery no nothing. A few minutes later, it started. Then it did it again - dead but this time dead for longer.

We are losing faith in this lovely car. Can you help?

First thing I would check Is the battery and charging system. If you out a voltmeter across the battery terminals while the car is running it should read around 14 anything under this could signal a poor alternator. This would also shut down all electrical items in order to save the battery life.
