GT Cam, bike carbs

Pull it out and stick a different engine in?

They are 55bhp as standard..... £ for £ stick a GT/AFH/PY engine in save time and money!!!

Change the box for a GT one, certainly help it get upto reasonable speed quicker!!!

Failing that if you want to keep the engine and box would be a weber car (or twin carbs) decent exhaust system (inc manifold), then a cam, then headwork. Depending on how deep your pockets are really

Chears boys if I was to put a gt can in would I have to adjust the timing to what it is standard or is it just fit it and away you go?

Carefully fit it in and it'll work with the timing marks given on your pulleys - and then boom! Enjoy.. :-p

The carb is holding you back ultimately, bike carbs aren't really for beginners (though it seems they're popular with beginners and people have a hard time as a result). Better inlet manifolds for downdraught carbs are an immediately important upgrade for your carb but unfortunately they're very difficult to aquire. So some homework to educate yourself on bike carbs is something i personally recommend strongly for now, so you can look at dosing magic potion properly later.

Cam will make a big difference, bike carbs are probably the best choice but as above they're a bitch to set up properly.

Twin weber 40s are probably out of the question, the manifolds are hard to find and they give crap fuel economy, not to mention the cost of the carbs alone can be £300, but they do sound awesome!

GT MPI fuel injection conversion , isn't to hard

change the whole ignition and fuelling system for pretty much fuck all gains?

put a GT camshaft in, makes a major difference and you will notice it straight away. the best bang for buck thing you can do to it.

GT engine conversion is pointless as it wont be that much quicker than just putting a GT cam in and a couple tweeks to be worth the money.

Thread cleaned up.

Remember if you put a gt cam in you'l need to fit a separate fuel pump as the cam doesn't have the love to drive the pump

Is there a good upgrade to the standard carb? Ie larger or something?

Could an early mk1 gol be used, like a 1.5 carb or something? Obviously an adapter would need made, then you may as well go with a more involved conversion e.g twin 40s or bike carbs

Get a Barry White GT cam.

I'm glad I didn't edit his post to correct his spelling now! Hahahaha

i just lol'd

This shoulder be in the 'Eric thread' topic!

WEBER 32/36 DGV is a bigger twin barrel carb used on the ford crossflow 1300gt's

Dont think anyone has done it but it would probably suit well

Speaking as someone who's actually tried it - and dyno'd the results, you're wrong Eric...

GT MPI injection (without GT cam) made 75bhp @ flywheel on my original AAV lump. Genuine GTs were doing 85bhp @ flywheel, and other AAVs did 60-65bhp on the same day. That was back at the first Club Polo RR Day over a decade ago at Wilcox Engines IIRC.

You'd want to throw a GT cam in there at the same time to make the most of it, but even if you don't it's a 10-15bhp gain.

how can it possibly make gt power without the cam ect? surely that dyno is wrong

but fair enough, i just think its alot of effort for not much

It's not a huge amount of effort, and 10-15 Bhp is not to be sniffed at from what is essentially a basic mod. I am also confused about gt power without the cam. But as is always said, rr's can be inaccurate and are really only good for comparisons on the day.

Just saw my poor spelling above. Bloody predictive 'text'!

i spose it depends on the person. id just sack the 1.3 off whereas others wouldnt. idk haha

But you can get an engine in in a matter of minutes!

Doesn't matter if the rollers were wrong because they were all compared on the same day on the same rollers.

I don't know why everyone jizzes over GT cams anyway, they're a good OE cam but they're not bolting a turbo on

just a bit strange that it made gt power without the cam, extra compression ect, but if you say so lol

better give dart strife a cuddle before he beats me up

That's the point Eric, they didnt make gt power. As said above, GTs one the day were close to 90bhp. 75 on those rollers may be more like 65 on a different set. You can only really compare results from cars on the same rollers on the same day.
