Change you are relay behind the fusebox under the dash cant remember which one of top of my head but it happened to me the other week. Would start up on easie starter but nothing else. Changed the relay and bang fired up first time

Cheers mate give it a try

What?! No.

This one has no spark, so it's not a fuel related problem. Changing the fuel pump relay isn't going to make a difference, there's still no spark.

Just found that out and no still no spark

Haha, obviously..

Checked the fuses for ignition?

How are you checking for spark?

Get your mate to hold one end of the lead while you crank it; it's the easiest way!

Check all fuse and been using spark tester the one which flashes when where a spark

Could be weak though - hold the plug against the block and crank, you want a fat blue spark. Not a weak one, not a yellow one..

If you've got spark, you've not got fuel. Pour a little capful of petrol (1.5 caps of coke lid of petrol) into the throttle body. Crank again. If it starts and then dies, you've got no fuel..

If it doesn't, either the timing is out, or you've got no compression..

Do you know What the best way to check timing

Thanks

Changing the timing isn't going to change the fact it has no spark!

Hi All i to have the same problem i just bought a nice little V reg 6N i got it cheap because of this problem so i thought right nice cheap car OOOOHHHHH how wrong was i?

I have bought new dizzy, plugs, leads, cap, rotor, and coil, next is going to be and ECU but dont want to be spending that sort of money unless it really is that i dont know what to do next i put my code reader on it but its coming up with

Throttle position sensor signal out of range(G69) also check for loose ECM power relay??????????? where ever that is

MAP sensor out of range

MAP sensor voltage low

MAP sensor voltage high

IAT sensor high circuit low

IAT sensor low circuit high

throttle position sensor G88

Now do i go mad and keep changing every sensor onthe engine or do i just go for the ECU and hope its that?

I can get one from a good vw breakers i know but had i got to have it tuned to my car??

Any help on this is going to be very much apreciated

Hope you guys can help

Jim

crank sensor???

That's in the distributor

They don't have a crank sensor. But aren't the MAP and the IAT the same sensor?

Yeah believe so, in one side of the plastic inlet mani

Yeah, so either the sensor is burst, or potentially the loom running to it/from it.

Saying that, the throttle body is on the same bit of loom - so it could be a damaged earth, check those too.

Yeah, or something as simple as not being plugged in

Got my car running just back fireing

did you change the distributor as i had the same problem and it was the hall sensor inside

  • Author

Ye got a new one

But still back firing

Have set you the ignition timing correctly since replacing the dizzy

I love how Harris never put a question mark - it's more of a statement..
