Hi guys thinking of doing a dash conversion in my 6n to 6n2 spec, I'm gonna be converting the door cards and interior to 6n2 spec, so I though the dash would finish it off nicely.

I've read it can be a nightmare, and I'm prepared for that,

I've also read that it would be easier/better to use pre-1999 lupo clocks, specifically for the rev-counter to work, as apposed to later can-bus systems, my question is, what is the VW part number I need?

starts with "6E" on the part number iirc

you can use vagcom to remove the brake electronics from the clocks if you have a set with ABS and the warning alarm.

i believe all the lupos that were sold in the UK had the canbus system.

however, for 6 months in Germany when they were first made (in '98 iirc and before they were released in the UK) they didnt... so you are correct, pre 99 lupos dont have the canbus system but you'll only get them from germany with the KMH speedo.

if you can find some of those clocks, you'll be able to have everything working as it should with no warning lights.

for reference, see panda's dash conversion in his 6n. yes its a 20vt but it still has the 6n interior loom.

airbag light is on because of the snap off wheel.

edit: also, the video shows a 6n dash with 6n2 clocks but its all complete now!

sweet thanks for the info, i've seen some clocks on ebay.de that are early 1999, with white dials, but still unsure on part number haha

I'm sorry but most of that is total tosh - the lupo didnt have canbus - there the ones you want! the lupo GTI ones with the chrome rings are actually harder than you think to get ahold of.

when i get to my laptop il put the code up you need- its either 6N or 6X i think its 6X you want - rev counter will be pin 11 on the blue connector

I can see loads on ebay.de that are 6X0920800

then theres others that are 6X0920860, 6X0920801, 6X0920861

but there is this one - 6X0919860

which says it's from a 98 Lupo

so am I right in thinking then that the actual part number I need is 6X0919860?

edit: Mine is the 6N0919860 with the single blue connector, fairly sure anyway, as mines a 99' Polo, if that helps?

it didnt have canbus to power the rev counter only a gateway to connect to other modules, which was what the original post asked- your comments about only having german versions working is bollox. and i know it is because I've wired them in myself and know it.

when you actually have done a dash conversion come back and prove me wrong- until then keep reading threads about stuff you haven't done.

oh and if you want a set R10tz0r - i have the required dials on my shelf and can be yours for £10

I'm not trying to discount what you've actually done mate, I'm just trying to understand better the parts I need and I guess maybe I am digging a little too deep...

I'll be honest, I'm throwing myself into the deep end and trying to learn as much as I can as quick as I can, sorry If I've got you a bit annoyed by that?

Got all the dash wired in and sorted now, just need to sort some clocks out would 6X0 920 900 clocks work okay?

Part number was indeed 9X0 920 900

Sticky this thread, has been very helpful for me and other in the future who want to do this with their 6n's.

I can also confirm that the pre 2000 Lupo clocks will be a plug and play!
