I have a 1992 polo coupe and I have water coming into the drivers side foot well. The carpet on the wall next to my right foot seems to be where its running down because that is always wet. Does anyone know where the leak could be coming in before I remove the dash. Wont let me upload pictures.

battery tray is the most likley one...after that rotten screen surround under the rubber

Yeah, I'm gonna guess its the battery tray if it hasn't been replaced before

Can you get replacement panels for the battery tray ?

Checked the battery tray and it seems pretty solid, will check the screen surround. Thanks for the replies

pretty solid or immaculate? only takes a pin hole to leak, you can check up under the dash and see the other side and look if theres any scabs

Did you check battery tray from the engine bay or inside the car? Best to remove the shelf under the dash (in a mk2 think mk3 similar) and look up from under there. The rot usually starts behind the wee clamp on bulkhead when it gets blocked and allows water to gather. Door seals can leak badly too, and if plastic behind door card isn't secure can let water in.

slide your drivers seat back, get on your back, lie on the floor and look up the back of the dash... my old polo had this same issue, it looked alright under the bonnet, but under the dash was a different story completely - I'm not going to tell you what to look for, if its that, you'll know.
