Changing the anti-freeze to industrial stuff that gets you high to make sure we dont crack our bloody block! Coilover getting a little higher incase you start slipping and sliding into kurbs!

Just curious how many polo owners swap over to a set of winter wheels (with winter tyres on)

Just been having a poke around Camkskill.co.uk and noticed that the prices for these rubber bands are quite... cheap really.

175/65/14 - Reasonable Brand (Uniroyal) can be had for 36quid each (Before fitting)

175/65/14 - Premium Brand (GoodYear) can be had for 47quid each (Before fitting)

Both the above brands and the tyres in question have really good winter review with the good year being 1st and 2nd on yearly winter tyre views.

***Before you start saying yes but the tyre speeds and stuff like that dont suit your car or things like that, you wont be doing 120mph down the M1 when its snowy or icy***

So my questing is how many people swap out there alloys for a set of old steals with winter rubber on them?

Also you have to save up for these kind of things so people would be looking at this type of thing now even through its 22c outside! =]

I havnt before, but will definitely be running winters on my BMW this year.

A lot of people I know run winters and the difference is unbelievable, even cheap budget winters are better than summer tyres in snow

I remember in the snow last year I came down my hill behind a mate. He stopped on the hill and I couldn't. No amount of stomping on the brakes/ABS/gear shifting would help.

Went to drive back up the other side and spent 40 mins trying to do so. Every gear spinning on idle.

I have a set that were on the skinny wheels on the breadvan when I bought it

Only use them in winter, the skinny wheels combined with the winter tyres means it sails through anything, and can actually brake pretty well in snow.

Look shite mind but not important!

Yeah iv just looked at getting some 18" staggered winters for mine an they're rather expensive, cheap set of 17" rims and a much cheaper wider tyre choice seems to be the route I'll be taking.

Even all seasons are pretty good

I've been running Winter wheels with winter tyres since 1st of November last yer till 1st of April this year. Well worth it, not only from a safety point of view but being steel wheels saves me having to ruin paint job on my lovely BBS alloys.

I've done a little research online about winter tires an Vrederstein were the best on test at the time. They cost me £52 each with free shipping from Germany. A further cost of buying MK2 golf steeliness came to a total of £62 with tyres (which now have been sold and got my money back for the wheels) and of cause fitting, this included balancing and new valves at the cost of £30. They have been good tome and only used about 1.5mm of rubber on the fronts and half of hat on rears.

In mainland Europe it is a law to use. Winter tyres from November to March alongside with main headlamp beam on. It could only be a matter of time before UK will have same law.

Definately going to get a set of winter steelys this year.

Was just going to get a set for the front, but after reading up on it, people are saying you gotta run a full set of four.

Was thinking of going for a set of 155/70R13 Kingpin Mud & Snow Tyres, (About £28) chunky tread and nice and skinny to cut through the crap.

Anybody tried these?
