  • I find Mikeys posts are normally the best to get me through a particularly difficult poo, they tend to be just long enough and confusing enough to take my mind off whats going on down below for just t

No don't know anything about it but without trying to be harsh I think it's a bit selfish of your missus to think of leaving you because of a condition you have.

First of all, strange thread.

Second of all IBS takes a long time to adapt to, you need to work out what sets it off and what doesn't and cut those things out of your diet.

Also IBS goes hand in hand with stress, people underestimate exactly what stress on the conscience can do to the body, if you are working nights which usually increases stress levels and if your missus is being a total harsh selfish bitch saying what she is saying (no offence, but it is true) then that is just adding more to your issue.

My advice would be try and switch onto day shifts if that's is what you really want, try and find a way to relieve any excess stress, take up a relaxing hobby or something and most of all have a serious chat with your missus about her ideology on the issue and try and explain to her that its not your fault. At the end of the day its out of your hands and its going to be a problem all of your life unfortunately until you can figure out your do's and dont's for food etc but even then you will still suffer from it from time to time.

100% agree with Matt. I also have this ibs shit thing and its down to certain foods if you can narrow these down and remove them from your diets his we help u a great deal. Also you can get tablets that when the pain get to its worst you can take them and the relax the muscles in the gut.

The only real way is to find the food that is the culprit for me it's melted cheese and if I eat a lot of cheese. Pizza is a big no no.

But your misses leaving you is bull shit I would let her go. She obviously doesn't care for you

Ermmmmm......

I'm sure your going through a tough time and I wish I could offer some kind words but I can't.

All I can say is sack her off.

I always thought IBS was a load of shit?

I'll get my coat....

Wrong sort of shit I believe lol

I know people who suffer from this and eddy and mattie have given you possibly the best advice so all I can really do is wish you luck with getting your body back in check

And on a personal note get rid of dead weight's as they will only hinder your progress I know first hand

Thanks :) a couple of months ago I decided to have a mc Donald's I think it's also alott to do with melted cheese well I ate it and Jesus Christ abit after the pain I couldn't bear it I've never touched one since I've cut slot of stuff out through the past 6 months and I've lost around a stone and a half lol it's alot better than it used to be just wish there was cure :(

My ex Mrs had IBS, apparently you should eat small meals 5-6 times a day instead of the normal sized meal 3 times a day. She also found that it was fizzy drinks (Coke), coffee and bread/potatoes so only ate those in very small quantities (Probably shouldn't of at all!). You will find out what it is that is causing it sooner or later but it may take some time and you will have to patient. The late shifts probably don't do much for your stress and sleep either so would be worth swapping, maybe for a trial period of you can?

You should definitely talk to your gf and explain it's not your fault etc. and in time you may realise what food/drink makes it worse and can avoid these so you should not have to forward think about toilets etc.

just a thought, but bit of painful experimentation might help in the long run i.e. eat the foods you think may set you off if not jobs a good un if they do avoid them, Russian roulette if you will

IBS is another bull shit term, try cutting wheat out of your diet for a month if nothing changes (which I bet it will) try cutting out dairy etc you can narrow it down rapidly like that and your missus wouldnt be running off with the milkman...

I have a bad arse after eating processed cheese but I like having a shit so hey what the hell :) and cut down on wheat. The main difference was I started going to the gym more about 2 years ago and that sped up my metabolism which seemed to help too

As a nutritionist I have to agree with that advice above about doing a bit of trial and error. You have to be careful though and log everything in detail. Remember it takes a few hours for the food in your mouth to pass to the guy, so bare that in mind. As above too, try to narrow down the situations that set you off. It can be a vicious cycle, with stress setting it off, making it worse, causing more stress. A good place to start would be high fiber foods, things like raw fruit and veg and 'brown' foods (brown rice, brown bread etc). And see how that goes. Once you've eliminated a group of foods, try reintroducing some you've cut out to narrow it down. And again, write it all down in as much detail as possible (how it's cooked, how much, how long after eating you had an episode). It's a lot of work, but pays off in the long run.

Have you been to the dr about this? I imagine you have. They can give you a small amount of an antidepressant that acts as a muscle relaxer. This may be worth asking about (different gp's may have different preferences on this). However the most sustainable way of dealing with this is to make lifestyle changes. Do some research into possible causes and try other people's solutions. Ibs is a tough one because of the number of factors that cause it. It's really an umbrella term used to describe lots of different conditions.

And not eating wheat doesn't speed up your metabolism I'm afraid

He didn't say anything about wheat speeding up metabolism, try reading it again

Gotta agree with everyone else, sack her off, she's a selfish bitch and that shit only gets worse with time so think of the fun you have to look forward to with her

He didn't say anything about wheat speeding up metabolism, try reading it again

lol no I didnt.... The gym did that for me ;) come on Si!

Sorry. You wouldn't be the first to have that idea though. Sorry. Gym can be good, but prolonged cardio and dehydration can cause stomach cramps

Ain't you a veggie si?

Yeah. What of it?

well I've been given medication to calm my gut down I've also cut out most and nearly all fast foods. mcdonalds, burger king, e.g i dont eat them no more havnt for 3 months now all i have is a indian on a saturday once a week. because i work nights I've also started to eat apple grapes and melon on my break. I've really lost alot of weight tho which is slight worrying in a way.

Yeah. What of it?

Well isn't a vegetarian giving people advice on how to eat a balanced diet the same as a virgin giving people advice on having sex?

Not really. I haven't always been a vegetarian and I'm a trained nutritionist. Just because I don't eat meat, doesn't mean I don't know what a balanced diet is.

Personally I'd lay off the tough skinned fruit. Try softer fruits like peaches and bananas. Melon may be ok. Fruit is full of fibre which your intestinal muscles need to work on, which may cause pain. If you find you're loosing a lot of weight, try drinking protein shakes between meals or better, mass gainers. Liquids are generally easier to digest than solids. Again though, being dairy based, these may cause irritation.

It's not about cutting out fast food, but rather whole foods. For people with sever gut issues, 'normal' healthy eating advice may not be suitable. It may actually be that overly processed foods may cause less irritation (due to the lack of fibre and other nutrients). That's not an excuse to eat badly however. Again, my advice would be to cut out whole groups of foods (fruit, vegetables etc.) and see what happens. Do it for around a week and make a more of changes. If there are none, swap a food group.

Yeah. What of it?

Well isn't a vegetarian giving people advice on how to eat a balanced diet the same as a virgin giving people advice on having sex?

Hahahahaha

Guys main topics in life:

Sex

Child Molestation

Foreigners

Abuse/Killing

Sex.

:lol::lol::lol:

Not really. I haven't always been a vegetarian and I'm a trained nutritionist. Just because I don't eat meat, doesn't mean I don't know what a balanced diet is.

And that's the type of hypocritical society we live in unfortunately. Everyone from politicians to vicars to celebrity chefs telling us what we should and shouldn't do while they do exactly as they please which often contradicts what they preach

I had a fat alcoholic with type 1 diabetes that spends his day ramming pot noodles, pork scratching's and other crap down his throat, try and tell me the shredded wheat I was eating wasn't good for me and I should eat some other type of cereal. I told him to fuck off. If he hadn't of been such a hypocrite I would of paid more attention to what he had to say.

Anyway back on track. At one point I was convinced I had IBS, as a teen I started to get painful stomach cramps which could last from anything from an hour to most of the night, most of the time ending with a messy trip to the loo. This went on for years but wasn't frequent enough for me to go to the docs. It seems to of passed somewhat now but I do still get it if I have certain spicy foods, a spicy rooster wrap with extra chilli sauce from my local chicken place tends to do it, yet a buger smeared in ghost chilli sauce just gives me the usual ring of fire. So for me its no so much the hottest things that do it but specific spicy things. Not much help I'm sure, but might as well chuck in my 2p while we are discussing our bowl movements

How is that hypocritical? I choose to avoid meat due to ethical reasons, not health. But there's a body of people who do advocate a vegetarian diet for health and scientific research to suggest we currently eat too much meat. Too much red and processed meat has been linked to an increased risk of colon cancer. So it may be an idea to avoid most animal protein for health reasons, but people don't like to hear that.
