Isn't this going to be a bit of a kick in the teeth for paid members when non paid members just start selling their cars elsewhere?

I see the thinking behind it (to get more money in) but in reality the only people it will adversely effect are paid up members

Example...

Bob wants to sell on his old polo daily quickly so goes on cp to put it up cheap to get it gone. Cp wants him to pay for the privilege so he sells it on retro rides instead. Who looses out there? Not bob cause he's sold it for free, not the buyer cause he's got a cheap daily, not retro rides because the more cars for sale on there the more people will be inclined to look on there and the more people will be inclined to stick around. Only people that would of lost out are any cp members that were looking for a cheap daily

Surely the club should be welcoming people who want to try and sell stuff that its members may be interested in?

Personally I've had two polo's for free from people who posted up saying they wanted them to go to an enthusiast, neither would of been allowed under the new rule. My mk2 was also for sale by a lad that wasn't a paid up member and barely used the forum in all the time he had been signed up so I'd of missed out on that too

are people going to be willing to pay to sign up to a polo club if all they are doing is selling their polo? chances are they will have no use for the membership after that.

I just get the feeling I could potentially miss out on a decent car because of this rule

Its a poor idea, I think most of us on here have bought off people like Mclovin describes, they have no interest in being a member for a year.

Yep, and last time we restrictted selling to members only I spent half my life cleaning up adverts that were scattered all over he place because people couldn't put them in the right place.

If I had a specific car such as a Polo to sell, that I thought "I'd like this to go to a good home" I personally would be happy to pay £5 to advertise it on an enthusiasts website - even if I wasn't going to use discounts, or attends shows etc.

But that's just me - it's still hella cheaper than eBay etc for selling; and if I was selling a polo, I'd think polo forum, not retro rides

Love how selling a car on here keeps getting compared to ebay. Ebay is a business set up to make money from people selling things on there, this is supposed to be a place to help enthusiasts

just because you would be willing to pay a fiver to advertise on here doesn't mean that shit loads more wouldn't. After all its not like the people of retro rides aren't also going to give a old polo a good home. They are just as enthusiastic about old motors on there as we are on here and any car sold on there is just as likely to find a good home as one on here.

You just have to look at what happened to polo3 to see why this is a bad idea, putting member restrictions on the for sale sections nearly killed the place and its never recovered. These days people don't seem to want to pay for something they can get free elsewhere

I was recommended to sign up to the turbo renaults web site when I bought my 11. I did but realised I had to pay to access parts of the site and haven't been back since, why would I when there are plenty of other renault sites that cover cars like my 11 that I don't have to pay for?

i see both sides of the story, but agree with nick. if you wanted to sell a car to someone whos gonna look after it, and want a quick sale, £5 isnt really alot considering eBay, Autotrader etc.

And those looking for a cheap polo etc surely will think 'Clubpolo' first?

I think £5 is better than having like 300 odd posts before you can sell like other forums personally

If I was looking for a cheap polo I probably would think "club polo" first, and then when I realised there wasn't much on here because only a percentage of the people that use the site can sell on here I'd go looking elsewhere

Would you rather us do an edition and have it to a 200 post count? then have the forum full off bullshit posts from people trying to up their counts?

Has anyone actually taken a look at the polo's for sale section to see how few adds would be there if it was only members allowed to advertise in there?

now look at it from a sellers point of view. You want to sell your car but have to pay a fiver to do so, you then look at the cars for sale section and see it as barron as it would be with only the members cars for sale. Are you going to pay a fiver to advertise in such a inactive for sale section? Or go to one of the many very active and free places, or even pay to do so on one of the more expensive but highly active places like ebay?

why are you comparing edition's 200 post rule with this? Your going on like if we hadn't got the members restrictions we would of go5 the 200 post thing, but that is only there to deal with rouge traders where this is to bring in more money. Two totally different rules to deal with two totally different things, they are non comparable.

A couple of weeks back I found a thread on a mini forum from years ago where you were bullied for trying to sell a car without being an active member on the forum. I posted it on your facebook saying how they were fucking retarded and how they should be encouraging people to sell minis through the club because it would only be the members missing out... and you agreed with me. Its the same point I'm making here but now your saying you don't agree with it?

A busy for sale section brings in people looking to buy shit and some will tend to stick around (I did with this place and I know many who did too). On e restrictions are out on for sale sections and they become less busy people will be less inclined to stick around. Have you even looked to see how few adds would be in the polo's for sale section once the current non members adds drop off?

you may get a lot here for free, but we will be getting a lot less for our fver now too. Like I said this isn't going to effect the non paying members as there are thousands of places they can sell their car for free, its the paying members that will be missing out. But its not like their opinion seems to mean anything on here or we would of been asked about such a big decision.

Well for a start you've instantly assumed its to generate more money, when in the discussions regarding this happening that wasn't even mentioned.

I'l like to add...

this was never about bringing more money to the club it was about giving people who have Paid and support the club better benefits.

Lots of other car forums I use do require you to be a paid up member before you can post items for sale. However I joined up when they were like this so had no problem with it. However I can see when something was open to all suddenly becomes not it can be like taking something away.

So I've added a Poll in the Club House area to get your guys feed back. But I pretty much know what the people in this thread will say! :)

Also I've added a question regarding items for sale on the Facebook group.
